Can the Space aficionados explain this to me
« on: Wed, 15 April 2015, 19:50:59 »
So, i just saw that spacex rocket blow up the barge.

I'm confused,  is there a reason they can't let the thing parachute and land in the water?

Why does it have to land on a barge.. (besides, the fact that it looks cool)

Ah, two years of marine science would lead me to guess the delicate pH of the ocean and co2 stuff and nitrogens.
And fish. Lots of fish.
Also, don't buy balloons. Turtles die thanks to balloons.

I think they tried and it didn't work out.
Also you don't have guidance with parachutes.

They can have one parachute, then use little tiny rockets boosters sticking out of the sides to move it on a X, Y axis.

It's probably cheaper to land the rocket on a ship than it is to retrieve it from the water.  Also, it's probably a lot cheaper to service the rocket for re-use if it hasn't been marinating in salt water.

That's my guess.
