Are you excited?

Are you going to see this opening week?

That star destroyer man.

What do you think of this new trailer?

Will JJ Abbrams un-ruin this franchise?

Is that cross lightsaber going to make a nice christmas decoration/gift?

On a scale of 1-10 I'm at about a 4. Star Wars was over for me after the original trilogy, and frankly they should've just left it at that. I just cannot find the energy to care about a franchise that's been so sucked dry in every facet that it's been on life support for almost 30 years. There's nothing new it can offer, it's tapped out. The new films will just be more of the same since it's so well known no one will dare attempt anything new, original, or fresh with the franchise.

It's a tough question. I read the novels and think that would have been the right direction. I'm going to enjoy EP VII but I'll consider it a spin off just to keep me sane. Jacen Solo's story would have been awesome. Darth Caedus FTW!

That's alright. We all like same-y stuff, don't we? If they attempt new, original, that's Ep 1-3 which was a disaster!

I'm soooo excited.  I know trailers can make anything look good, but I got all tingly at the end.  Solo and chewie were back. So much yes

In my other hobby, I build replicas of lightsabers and other props from the original trilogy. I am  very conscious about details. I am one of those guys who think that any of the pricey high-end collectibles you could buy are not good enough. I research and track down rare original parts that were used to build the props back in the 1970's. I also have an eye for design, and did once win a custom-design lightsaber building contest with over eighty entries.

So, I have seen a lot of lightsabers. I find the crossbar lightsaber to be the ugliest lightsaber seen in the Star Wars universe ever. But I suppose that the raw ugliness of it was intentional, as a reflection of the character that wields it.

Are you going to see this opening week?
Possibly. I had been hoping that I would see it on opening night like the last times, but my hope was crushed by one little bit at the end of the trailer:

I can't watch stereoscopic 3D. The Real D projection technology has too much crosstalk, and that confuses my eyes, makes me dizzy, strains my eyes and makes me miss things in the image.

Meh star wars

Shall be seen, when it's downloaded onto one of my servers  8) .

Nothing better than setting up the lounge with an esky and lots of coldies in hand to enjoy the latest fantasy version of "Star Wars" at my age.

Looks bad TBH

Can barely enjoy the original 3 anymore after all the gouging the IP had undergone over the years.

I think the modernisation of the franchise has the potential to be cool as ****. The new storm troopers look ace, the inclusion of older things look cool too. I just hope they don't use the old cast as novelty cameos.

And then I hope Battlefront is as good a tie in as it was before. I think it was probably the best bit about the second trilogy tbh.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

They are planning to release an episodic movie every other year, with a spin-off in-between. Then what?
It looks like Disney is milking the franchise - milking it dry.

Info about the first spin-off movie has been released in a panel at Star Wars Celebration SEVEN in Anaheim.
Rogue One will be released in November next year and be about how the Rebels got hold of the Death Star's plans.

While I like JJ Abrams' reboot of Star Trek, I can only manage mild interest in the new Star Wars film.  Phantom Menace was so horrible, I never bothered to watch the other two prequels.  And TBH, I think the franchise peaked with The Empire Strikes Back.  Lucas' effort maximize merchandising at the expense of good storytelling with the ewoks in Return of the Jedi was the beginning of the franchise's decline.  Disney hasn't impressed me with their treatment of the Muppets.  I don't expect their treatment of Star Wars to be much better.

My fear is that this is a d3 or duke nukem type situation.  Taken so long and so hyped based on the originals (not inc episodes I II and III).  With that being said the trailers alone have brought more entertainment than I II and III.  I think it will be an amazing movie (trilogy).  Gotta be careful not to get too excited this long before release.

I think he's going to pull it off. I don't think it's going to be a Lord of the Rings type of awesome, but I think it will be good.

People will no doubt complain how they are different from the originals, but I think JJ will nail it.

JJ has to do good here because if he stuffs this very FIRST edition release of this Movie then that's it for him in Hollywood, remember you only get signed on if your past successes are there but it gets awfully lonely when you have done nothing in the near term.

Suspect all the original old timers who've seen the first edition of this film franchise shall determine whether he's done good or simply done a giant diarrhea on the film stage.  We shall all see which one he's done soon......  8)

Then pardon my ignorance haven't been to movie theater in years. Just seemed like trying too hard to build a hype on a movie that will disappoint anyway.

It's been pretty common practice for a while... hell Prometheus had a whole set of videos simply to build hype along with a fake Wayland corporate website and Ted talks...

The last two times I sat in a movie theatre it was for events, and they were free. The last time I sat in a movie theatre to watch a movie was maybe a couple of years ago.
The movie theatre experience mostly disappoints these days. 3D keeps me away.

Yeah... Instead of hiring an older actor to play an old mr Wayland in the movie, they had hired a younger actor just so that he could do the fake Ted talk in his prime. The actor had less-than-convincing ageing make-up in the movie. Just one of many things that was less than convincing in the movie...

Having a video projector +  5.1 audio plugged into a 16TB NAS, I dont see the point of going the movie theater aside from the social part of it. But I just invite friends over and it's alright.

I loved the new Star Trek movies JJ Abrams did, so I have hope it will be good, yet hated Avatar, so know it could be worse.  Nothing could be worse than Episode 1 though.

That said, I'm said that they're retconning all of the novels.  The Yuzzhan Vong story arc was awesome...and as much as it would suck, killing Chewie and having Jacen fall to the dark side (and Vergere being neither dark nor light) really made for some fantastic story arcs.

Since they're doing spin-offs, I really hope they do a Shadows of the Empire movie too.  There are some awesome novels that would make great movies.

I hated the Star Treks at first, but, since I have teenage kids, I have now seen them multiple times. The first one has really grown on me, but the second one still sucks.

Avatar was like Jurassic Park - wonderful and beautiful for the first half until the ugliness got loose. But, while the ugliness made Jurassic Park, it ruined Avatar.

The Rastafarian lizards and retarded desert races made Episode I stupid and embarrassing, but Qui-Gon Jinn was a great character and there were occasional flashes of brilliance buried in the dreck.
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."
