I would need new antennas though, right? Or am I wrong lol
If I were to buy the 6300, I can just slot it in with no new antennas?

It's the same antennas..

If you get 6300, you will only get 2 streams with the 2 antennas that's already in the alienware.

You would need 1 more antenna..

But

If you get the 7260 ac,  you can just use the 2 antennas that are already installed..

Um... LOL hahahaha

the Laptop MIGHT have a locked bios.. it's more likely to have a locked bios than the desktop is.

but if they're both alienware,  i guess maybe it'll work just fine, since the alienware would recognize the dell brand cards..

IDK man, you just gotta try it in this case..

You can't steal an antenna from the laptop though,  it's wired up through the screen and behind the bezel.

that's an hour to get it out,  you might as well just pay the $2 to buy a new one.

Also there are people selling FAKE 2.4ghz antennas as 5ghz antennas..

THere's no way to tell on Amazon..

You jsut have to buy it and test it.

They're both dell lol

I'm just confused on how the hell to route it and mount it. Do I route those cool antennas like on my Asus router? And drill some holes?

So this http://www.amazon.com/Super-Power-Supply%C2%AE-TL-WR1043ND-WZR-HP-G450H/dp/B00DTXGT1E/ref=sr_1_10?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1432770119&sr=1-10&keywords=5ghz+antenna
and http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Centrino-Ultimate-n-633anhmw-802-11a/dp/B00HRLRJUO/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1432770247&sr=1-1&keywords=intel+6300
theoretically will work... Right?

If you get the intel 6300, and need a third antenna,  you also need     http://www.amazon.com/U-FL-RP-SMA-Pigtail-Antenna-Cable/dp/B005UWD0EG/ref=pd_bxgy_147_img_y

to connect between the wifi card and the external antenna..

The x51 has 2 external antennas right?

Never mind.. it doesn't come with external antenna.

So basically,  you just gotta buy the pigtail- interconnect, the antenna  and drill 1 hole

But here ,, the confounding variable is,  now you have to test both the antenna, AND the pigtail connector for 5ghz operation..

Because , the sellers are sleezy.. and may try to pass off 2.4ghz parts as 5ghz..

Because they DO WORK,  despite having a dramatically reduced performance.

Although, after all this... I'm weighing my options... Holes, or card.. Tanks bb

IMHO,  drilling holes in your house is most worth it... for bulletproof internet...

Wireless, I'd stick with the intel 6300 + antennas + interconnect, so I don't need to buy a new router.

Rodents? The hole should only be big enough for the wire to fit through.

Right but under the house, there are two huge doors we can open to crawl under. But I wonder if rodents will get hungry

LOL that's amazing.  :))

You have very thick floors, HA.  :O  I'm not at all familiar with the design of homes without basements (except for cabins), so pardon my ignorance.  But 4ft seems way more than you would ever need...  O.o

Our homes are elevated lol. We can get away with 2ft probably. Our house is I think 3ft up? Something like. 3  steps to the main level, and then an extra step so like 3-4th up Lol

Measured out to about 40ft needed for the cable. All kinds of excited. Feels like I still have att.

And you have to drill through that entire thickness with a single bit?  If you have a crawl space below the house, shouldn't you only have to go through the thickness of the floor (12-18 inches, as Ray said) and then you'll be in the clear to reach it from below?

Houses without basements are built just like houses with basements (unless you have a concrete slab like most houses here in Texas) except the earth is not excavated beneath it. You shouldn't need to drill through more than a couple of inches.

...flooring material (carpet, wood, etc.), sub-floor which is plywood 3/4", and that's about it for most non-slab houses in the South. You have floor joists for structural support, but you don't need to drill through those.

What are you trying to change? Also many consumer routers don't always allow access via command line/Telnet unless you configure it from a web GUI first.

Move your PC to the router room and hook it up with wire. Or move the router to your room. Wireless sucks.
