So apparently... they got like the same car in china yea, like Lexus?  but instead of say aluminum parts,  they'll swap it out in the China version with steel, "cheaper"

for example a double wishbone suspension


Thank god We have magnets..


Careful buying cars in China folks..

I went to China a couple years back and i remember seeing off-brand cars made to look like popular selling cars like the Mazda 3 and stuff.
I'll try to find some photo's

well if they used different parts for THOSE cars..  that's fine..

but let's say i'm trying to buy a lexus,   and instead of aluminum suspensions I got steel..

Aluminum suspensions probably cost 5x as much to make as steel..

So.. Yea I'd be angry.

Not to mention you paid 60% more for some of those brands due to import taxes. And then they switch out the parts. Pfffft.

As the suspension compresses, it doesn't add anymore negative camber.

Sti McPherson front double wishbone rear
S2000 double wishbone on all four corners
Miata double wishbone
Saturn sky double wishbone
M3 front McPherson, rear multilink.

Height doesn't have much say in it

McPherson struts, when a corner is being compressed, the inherent design adds more negative camber, this could be bad, or good depending on the track.
Double wishbone, is more expensive to build, has more parts, but on bumps, roll, and when a corner is compressed, camber doesn't change.

Top Gear did a whole bit about this back in Series 18.

The naming was what always got me. BMW X5? How could that be? It's clearly a Shuanghuan S-CEO HBJ6474Y!

But then there's this...which is a little sad I think.

You lower a car an x amount, you're going to have to change the roll center. Unless you're talking about stance nation hella flush type stuff.

Geely bought the Swedish Volvo cars a couple of years ago, and I think not only for the brand but also for the engineers.
I still haven't heard if quality of Volvo has gone down and/or if quality of Geely has gone up. It takes several years to develop a new car model.

Just because a brand is Chinese does not mean that the quality is "Chinese quality".
Lots of Asian companies have bought up parts or merged with companies in the west. The brand could be Asian, but the engineers could be sitting somewhere in the West with the manufacturing in China ... just like Western brands.

It comes down to cost..   but OVERALL..  i think we're on the brink of China making a serious play for the car market...
