The Great Keylympics
« on: Tue, 06 October 2015, 21:49:57 »
I have some keyboard related 'games' in mind for a while, could be that it already happened here (there were some contents at the 6th anniversary)! I thought of some disciplines, which everyone can do, and after an overall score there will be some winners. The name Keylympics looks and sounds weird, but this is OK I think. It fits to this logo I made, but already for 2016 since it sounds better than 2015 for olympic games. Next games then 2018 or 2020? And probably it will take some time after ideas or even first entries will be posted.

I thought of contents like:

# The Keycap Change
Change a TKL keycap set of your choice to another one, goal is to be the fastest one, video or GIF evidence for example

# The Artisan Pyramid
Make the highest artisan keycap pyramid possible, winner is highest pyramid (could be only one sided for example to make it harder)

# Timed Keycap Pyramid (new)
Build the highest pyramid in the fastest time with keycaps of your choice

# WPM test
Type as fast as you can, goal is to be the fastest (funny text for example)

I had some more ideas, but it is too early right now to remind myself of the others and I am sure there are more ideas out there! So if someone has some funny keyboard related games in mind (beside put a keyboard on nose and hold there as long as possible - but why not), post it, and then let's do it.

Remember: being there is everything! That's the Olympic idea!

Proposed slight tweak for the Keycap Change.

All caps must be removed and placed into a bag and given at least one full shake.  This eliminates pre staging of caps in the correct order.  Layout (colmak, dvorak, AdNW) doesn't matter so long and they are not blanks.

Great idea! Should be for sure added as a rule to this content.

I take the Artisan Pyramid, I will need a lot more than just the 3-4 I have so please PM me for my address.
Help me break the record for this shameless display of artisan wealth olympic event :))

I propose also an assembly event: how fast you can build a 60% :)

I have thought of something like this for an event to have at a keyboard party.

However, pulling the keys off could risk damaging them, so there should only be populating a keyboard. Cherry stabilisers of course, so as to not need to do any funky stuff with stabiliser wires and the like.
Each contestant gets the keycaps well mixed in a bag and the same keyboard.

I'd be down but I don't have a 60% to build. Only 3 40ish% boards that need to be built. :))

This idea is awesome!  ;D I would love to watch, and perhaps participate, but I don't think I would win any of the events thus far.

An artisan pyramid is not practical,

It should be a  TIMED keycap pyramid,  regular caps..

That could be the next competition - great idea, I'll add it. To get the highest pyramid in the fastest time I assume? At the Olympic games there is also not only one running competition!

I'd say people just start posting, and we'll add a table to the opener. I am going to do an artisan pyramid in the next days, and try the keycap change :)

Well it shouldn't involve artisans at all, because what would using artisans prove?

Also,  that's like saying you only have a race with rare cars, and the country with the most number of rare cars would win..  That's not really a sports competition.

Or it's like asking a country of 3 people to compete in a human pyramid competition for Largest human pyramid, that whole country has only three people, I don't see how they could ever win..
