I've seen the footage, it's nowhere near as good as a Doom game ought to be. For a proper experience, play Brutal Doom.

I've given it a good hour now..

Solid gameplay as far as deathmatch in the Quake Style..

Collect armor,  collect health,

New element is the Demon possession,  Revenant,  which makes you a monster, and you get super strong 1 hit kill rockets.

This is not like csgo,  this is quake..

This is kinda like Tf2  but more vertical..

What's weird is,  This game is Vertical,  but claustrophobic at the same time..

I think it's due to the color choice, and how everything is shiny orange

I woke up in the middle of the night to play this..

Going back to sleep now..

This sums up my thoughts about many modern shooters, especially Quake and Doom remakes, quite well :p .

Be nice if I had a computer that would run it.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

IDK what games you guys are playing..

But this is Very faithfull to quake..

If you're a Battlefield/Cod guy.. yea,  this takes way more skill and you won't like it..

The speed and pace is very well balanced.

The weapons feel very good, and extremely responsive..

The rocket speed is just right.. the Sniper rifle scope speed, everything is great out of the box..

I agree with you. This is definitely more difficult than COD and others. I was actually rather enjoying the rocket fire and remote detonate as it was great against target out of sight. It is just no for me. I might give it another shot later this weekend.

Yea br0,  give it a good hour,  it's about getting used to the Rhythm and Pacing of the game..

It has a very different beat

Halo is like  ..   ..   ..  ..   ..   ..   ..      ..   ....  ..  ..   ..  ..
Battlefield is like ..                 ..   ..                                ....  ..  ...        ..
Quake is like ..........................................................................
Doom 4 is like  .................  ..   ..    .............  ..  .............................

The largest difference vs other shooters for most ya'll younger guys is the Run speed.

The maps are actually quite large,  but because you're running so fast, it - feels - rather tight..

Weapons/classes are unbalanced. The jumping physics feel 'wrong.' And I hate the level layouts because they seem extremely dated - reminds me of Unreal tournament/Quake games from a decade ago. It just doesn't feel good or fun to me.

I really like the implementation of the double jump

I think SOME of the ledges in the game are not spaced for an Intuitive double jump.. So if you guys are hung up on that...  I could understand..   but That happened in Quake as well..

Timing Jumps used to be A big play component.....  hahahahahaha

You guys must just be too young for this...

I'm not certain if rocket jumping is making a come back,

I think that skill-element is actually so-super-hard that most Younger gamers won't go for it if it was a "requirement"

I'm sure that's why they added the boost jump (double jump),  it's kinda like rocket jump, but more intuitive and easier to control..

Been pretty disappointed in the feedback I've heard on the multiplayer. I was really hoping for what would essentially be Quake 5.

I'll look to download it sometime this weekend and give it a go. Is item control still a big part of the multiplayer? I heard it's not, which is really unfortunate. Quake duels are one of my favorite things in the world and I was really hoping for some Doom duels to become popular.  :'(

Since there's no 1v1 in this beta..

I can't say for sure if item control will be at the LEVEL of quake

However, item control is still certainly an aspect, even in team play, because the demon-spawning is an easy 3-5 kills for your team.. and of course armor control is important..

Also, the people coming into the game haven't really gotten deep into it yet.. It's all just run and gun at the moment.

For the deep gameplay , everyone has to adopt a certain refined play-style first..

For example, even if someone TODAY is doing all the right things..  Because the other players are so bad,  doing all the right things would be the wrong thing to do..

Wow. Runs like garbage on my system. Mind you, it's not super new, but it's decently beefy: i7 3770k, 16 GB RAM, 3 GB GTX 780, SSD. Running at 2560x1440, it's stuttering and unplayable. At 1920x1080 it looks like a nicer Xbox 360 game (muddy textures, etc.). Not to mention that the gameplay has gotten worse since the alpha.

What in the actual **** is going on here? I expected a bit of optimization issues on the PC due to extreme consolitis, but this is nuts. It's completely unplayable on my lower-end system, which runs most AAA titles today at medium settings buttery smooth. My gaming rig can't even run it properly.

I'll pass until it's patched and cheap. Blech.

Well it's fair... no Carmack was involved coz he went to work for occulus rift. HE LEFT THE QUAKE RELIGION. He abandoned mother ship. He bailed on base.

What's wrong with it? Also Carmack was involved at the time of Rage, which wasn't met with positive reviews or an issue-free release.

What were the issues again with Rage?

That's gonna take lots of skill..  I wonder if it has that turn around 180degrees button.. like doom 3 on xbox/playstation

Will find out in about 10 mins. I also play BF4 reasonably well online in conquest.. always manage to get in top 8-10. Not too bad considering no mouse / kb and acceleration on ps4 controller.

Not too impressed with it. Don't like the Loadouts or Hack modules...miss picking up weapons. Also the announcer voice feels slightly off, and none of the visuals impressed me and it looks low res and muddy, but I still hold out hope for the campaign. Multiplayer feels more like Halo to me. Hopefully the new UT will bring back the classic fast paced twitch shooters....Doom definitely isn't doing it for me.

Which is funny, cause Rage ran fine on my system back when it came out. And I thought it was a pretty fun (though, too short) game to play. It wasn't too original, but had that "old" feel to it, which I found pretty engaging. I remember being blown away by the graphics, but ultimately let down by the depth/length of the game.

Oh well. The days of old are past now. I will continue to play old games and be happy with them. The kids can have the new stuff and I'll buy a rocking chair. Too bad I can't afford a porch/yard in Toronto.
