MX Silver (Speed?) Stem Pictures
« on: Sun, 08 May 2016, 09:08:49 »
I'm not sure if anyone wants this info, or if this is even the right place for it, but I've got some shoddy (cell phone + bad lighting  :() pictures of the stem in an MX Speed or MX Silver switch. Corsair was giving away keychains at their PAX East booth and I thought it'd be fun to have one. I can write a short write-up of my thoughts on the switch if people want, although it's hard to form an opinion with only one switch.

The higher actuation point is a result of a steeper slope on the legs:

The legs are thinner than the Blacks I have. The difference is more noticeable in person:

There's more material on the backside of the stem. Not sure why:

A better shot of the "bumpers" that give the switch it's shorter travel:

The Silver (blue/gray cap) bottomed out next to a Black (green/grey cap) to demonstrate the shorter travel:

The switch housing is standard, and spring is identical to the Red I had on-hand, so I didn't bother taking pictures of them.

Edit: Took off the spoiler thing. It wasn't working for some reason. Also fixed the images so they were oriented correctly and not massive anymore.

Funny I just watched a video of someone showing off the mx silver switches on a new Corsair K70 RGB Rapidfire.

Travel distance of 1.20 mm per switch is definitely unique. Basically a cherry mx red with a shorter travel distance?

Yeah, basically. They bottom out at 3.4mm I think, and actuate at 1.2. I haven't tested whether it feels faster than a red when it's wired up, although I think that's my next step. I'll probably put a blue spring in each switch to make sure they're the same, too. Eliminate as many variables as possible, y'know?

Thanks for the pics and information. If you have the opportunity to get the switches under natural sunlight, that may help a bit with being able to determine details on the black switch more easily for those who may have some trouble.

Otherwise, a red switch will be the same as the black.

Thanks for the advice!

Some shots under the sun would be great. Unfortunately it's been raining all day, so that's hasn't been an option yet, and I'm stuck on night shift tonight, so I need to get some sleep. I'll hopefully have time to get some good shots tomorrow morning that will help make the differences more prominent.
