Congratulations my man!

My final weigh-in for a weight loss challenge amongst friends is this friday. If I win I get 300 big ones and some serious bragging rights because I started with the lowest amount of fat in the group. I'm going to have to be grossly strict with my diet tomorrow (few carbs, low sodium, reduced water intake). Not looking forward to that.

What I'm noticing on my end is flour based products like bread and tortillas significantly constipate me.  I don't stop eating them but I do put a 72 hour ban prior to weigh in.

Should there be a Geekhack weight-loss Pool?

For tp to be interested there'd have to be women in bathing suits in the pool.  :))

There is some science to this..  During dry weather months.. a sudden increase in blood pressure COULD theoretically cause nose bleeds..

I like it. I'm doing a weight loss pool right now with friends and can confirm it may promote bad habits like eating at too much of a deficit, too much exercise or bodybuilder/wrestler style weigh-ins which will leave you weak & dehydrated. That said, it was an amazing catalyst to get 7 overweight guys focused on losing weight. I'd suggest removing the money element out of it so people aren't in a "do anything it takes to win" type of mindset, also it's not especially hard to photoshop a picture of a scale if you know what you're doing. Some friendly competition with the prize of bragging rights sounds like a good time.

Here are the rules my friends and I are currently using:
-The person who loses the most percentage of their body weight wins
-8 week weight loss period
-Weigh in every Friday AM - technically this isn't necessary considering the point below but it keeps people motivated and accountable.
-The last Friday weigh-in of the 8 weeks is the only number that matters
-Must take a photo of the scale every weigh-in (use the same scale the entire 8 weeks)

If you are interested in doing a friendly weight loss (bragging rights) pool, please post your interest in this thread.

Maybe we could shoot to start sometime next week. Us 'merkans are probably going to fatten up a bit over 4th of July weekend so anytime after Monday might be a good time to start. I have a google docs spreadsheet we can use to get started.

Well, the weekend didn't turn out as bad as I'd feared.  Went 2 meals a day since the wife kept eyeing some pretty heavy food.  We at least made it to the park yesterday so I got to run and play basketball a bit before walking 1.7 miles to get dinner and watch fireworks, then 1.7 up hill back to the car.  The pants/belt say things didn't go too bad over the weekend.

hi there lovely fellas

on august 18 my weight went lower than 80 for the first time in 4 years (and back then it was because of stress and food poisoning)

at 76.9 now

how you doin?
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Weighed myself on Sunday.  For the first time in... 2 or 3 years, I'm back under 190 lbs.  The goal is to get down to 175 and bulk up to 181 for competition but I think the holidays may interfere with that a bit.  Might due a couple short bulks in Nov/Dec to make it through the holidays before adjusting back.  That puts my first competition at 181 to some point next year if I want to make progress on my lifts and also make it down to 181.

I must say, tracking calories on MyFitnessPal has been rather helpful in keeping me on track.

Hovering at 205 since my first post in this thread. If I can make it through the holidays without gaining a pound I'll be set.

Thanks for the bump iri & nice job staying healthy guys.

I'm sort of maintaining weight...bouncing between 187-193lbs for the past few months. Two months ago I finally kicked a casual dip/snus habit because it's not healthy and a completely unnecessary cost. I only did it a few days a week but since quitting my appetite has been insatiable. I don't miss tobacco at all but holy **** do I want food all the time. I'm chewing a ton of gum and pounding water but still catch myself mindlessly eating. I'm getting married in 3 weeks and really wanted to get below 180lbs to be cut for the honeymoon but I don't think that's going to happen unless I do something drastic. #firstworldproblems

Try eating veggies when you're hungry but don't want to eat a ton of calories.
