« on: Mon, 04 July 2016, 18:03:19 »
Saw independence day..

So Good...

Aliens..

Plot makes no sense, but all the cool cgi + Alien Sphere entity which shed its corporeal existence for a purely DIGITAL one..

That's exactly what Tp4 aspires to be..

Some of the textures they use for the outdoor areas are quite good.

The weather effects are fantastic!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

It was a fantastic movie..

If a movie has ___::

4/10 Plot

8/10 Audio

18/10 Visual

10/10 Aliens w/ Lasers

That's still a 40/40 great Sci-Fi movie no ?

What's also possible.. is

For example:::

Transformers...

-99999/10 Plot

So, unless it was a full 8k virtual reality experience,, no lesser amount of technical prowess could redeem that film..

Totally agree!

Not even sure I'd be able to sit through a modern remake of it.

I read The Edge of Human, which I thought at the time would have made a neat sequel.

Never knew that existed. I thoroughly enjoyed Jeter's first sick insane book, Dr Adder, but the later ones did not move me as much.

He could be considered a worthy, if lesser, successor to ****, and if anyone continued the franchise, he would be a good choice.

Blade Runner is not exactly something that needed to be re-made.

Blade Runner is basically the perfect dystopian Sci-fi movie.  Just act like a sequel or remake doesn't exist, that's what I prefer to do with Star Wars.

I didn't like blade runner..

It was too slow.. and the plot is very thin..

But I'm a sci-fi hardcore, so nothing in it was new to me..

I think if someone watched blade-runner at the very beginning of their dive into Sci-Fi,  it would be enjoyable.

I think Blade Runner still stands as a really great sci-fi movie, but at the time of it's release it was pretty advanced.  It's like watching Citizen Kane now vs. 70 years ago, because most of the groundbreaking innovations that it had at it's release that made (make) it such a great film are considered pretty commonplace now.  So while watching it now might not be as amazing as it was at that time, it's still considered one of the best, if not the best, film ever made because of those innovations.

Modern CGI is just as time intensive to draw, and just as detailed..

yes, just look at all these time intensive details:

On a slightly less facetious point, I've done a lot of 3D work 3DSMax many years ago, and yes, it is painful and tedious, but there is a lot of shortcuts and coding techniques that produce a lesser product in a shorter time frame. and, time is money

You don't have any idea what you're talking about,  Any CGI character from large budget movies take hundreds of hours to program, build, animate, and texture..

That's just the base element,  depending on where you draw the line on what constitutes Elsa,  costumes, customized lighting, hair physics, makeup.

There is absolutely no less work involved in the creation of Cgi movies vs prop movies.

Props are nice to blow up or light on fire,  but they generally lack the complex geometry possible in CGI.

Notice that tower had mostly flat panels with bumpy protrusions, it'd be very difficult to add complex curvature as in CGI.

You are diminishing what cgi artists do, and yet you know nothing about it..

In a nutshell, this is what's wrong with the world today.

Actually, CGI tries to emulates the "complex geometry" found in this world either real or imagined, not the other way around. but you knew that, right? You're only actually just kidding here, surely. For example, you clearly will know the "complex geometry" of sunlight / translucency / refraction / reflection and oh, i'm bored now still can't be reliably modelled by cgi.

Notice that tower had mostly flat panels with bumpy protrusions, it'd be very difficult to add complex curvature as in CGI.

You are diminishing what cgi artists do, and yet you know nothing about it..

"bumpy protrustions" - that's clearly the technical term. The artist will state, I'll have some "bumpy protrustions" over here, some more "bumpy protrustions" over here, and some really large "bumpy protrusions" here. Sounds like weird science all over.

By complex curvature, you mean... a sphere, for example a football - something people have been making long before the first resistor ever appeared? That's really complex. Or maybe, you mean weird shapes with curves, just like what Raphael, Leonardo and all the other Greats were chiselling out of marble long before you learnt to say "I've just pooed my nappy"? Those shapes the Greats were carving - just imagine the mathematical equations needed to define them. Wow, MUCH COMPLEX.

Pro-tip, trying to sound like you know what you're talking about by stating your opinions as fact may work with your 15-year-old friends but just sometimes doesn't work in the big-pant-wearing world. For example, computers can't render "curvature". Only straight lines. a cgi 'sphere' is a high resolution multi-faceted shape, or at best, mathematical equations which approximate curves.

I love that you feel you are the defender of the true faith and have to press this point. I think I've forgotten more about 3d workflows than you appear to know.

Do tell me oh wise "Zoltar Speaks" (inserts 10c), what else do i know nothing about?

oh the irony. only hundreds of hours? So elsa was made in a week? yep. you sound like you know.

Blade Runner is not exactly something that needed to be re-made.

Blade Runner is basically the perfect dystopian Sci-fi movie.  Just act like a sequel or remake doesn't exist, that's what I prefer to do with Star Wars.

I didn't like blade runner..

It was too slow.. and the plot is very thin..

But I'm a sci-fi hardcore, so nothing in it was new to me..

I think if someone watched blade-runner at the very beginning of their dive into Sci-Fi,  it would be enjoyable.

I refer to my previous comment TP

I thought you had good taste in films....

I was almost willing to listen to your explanation of how you thought the new Independence Day was a good film, but now I just don't want to entertain it...

Blade Runner is basically the perfect dystopian Sci-fi movie.  Just act like a sequel or remake doesn't exist, that's what I prefer to do with Star Wars.

This is the correct opinion. I recommend the feature length "Making of" documentary called "Dangerous Days: Making of Blade Runner". It's super interesting.

Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Stuff that's wrong.

Essentially, Everything is superior in CGI at the 150 million budget level..  The reason is, that complex geometry on a macro scale is simply too costly to build, this is especially true of Curvature.

Your silly argument is built on minute details in geometry which is convincingly replicated via bump-map and texturing.

Even then, on plywood models, they stick with sheets, causing overall themes to be flat.

I highly recommend you check out some bts on cgi movies off youtube, or crack a book.

Your knowledge of the faux-aesthetic world is far too shallow..

No, I don't actually read the stuff he posts..

I just say --stuff-- in response to what I'd assume he'd say to me..

I am at the level where I don't need to read most posts.. I already have a moderately relevant response ready.

Very basically, I go through a decision tree.

Without reading your current response..

You either   agree/ disagree

I weigh the likelyhood of the two,  and accordingly prepare a response.

Now, at this moment, I feel there is a 50% chance for either case..

So, in these cases,  I would offer a neutral explanation of my process..

So whether you agree or disagree, it would be relevant..

If you agree, you would've said something like, oh do tell, how does that work.

If you disagree, you would've said something like that's ridiculous, I h8 Tp..

In which case this neutral statement would be enough to cover both.

This is starting to bring the random blathering into focus.
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

Another example.. I noticed Fohat posted above.

Now, based on previous information. I know that Fohat has a personal vendetta against Tp4. Over many altercations, Tp4 told him that he's pretty much wrong about everything with respect to the economy/ science/ religion.

So he's going to likely attack me in some way..  Given that he's old and at a near death age, He probably would not care about the current topic of movies and cgi..

So, it is most likely that he's just here to do his name calling.

And in explaining the Tp4 response process would itself be enough of a retort to whatever fohat may have said.

The food trucks are not in doubt..

I am 100% committed..

I looked into bunker building recently..

We can dig several stories down as long as no one finds out..

This is why the food trucks is a great idea..

We'd dig, then haul the dirt away in the food truck, and no one would know..
