Hrrrrrm....

I suppose this is their response to Overwatch,  Rejuvenating the competitive TF2 Style  via competitive mode..

Steam:::

Hai guyz, why pay for overwatch, TF2 for free.. + HATS.. you love hats..

Well here's the thing..

We don't know yet, if Overwatch will be able to RETAIN players over the long term..

With TF2, because it has already ironed out the kinks, and the _free_ factor,,  it's much easier to Jump into, hassle free via steam, which most gamers have already..

Sooooooo..  I think as long as they create the competitive scene with prizes/ tournaments within valve's already sponsored structure...  It could very well make a comeback..

And honestly.. If you just reskin TF2.. i mean... hahaha..  not that different from overwatch.

I agree about Overwatch, but disagree about the competitive scene.  People who really want to play competitively won't care if it's free or not, because they will be willing to shell out a (somewhat) measly $40 to play.  Being free to play probably helps quite a bit with the casual player base, but I don't see a real comeback being possible unless they are able to secure a chunk of the competitive scene.

As you said though, only time will tell.

This was promissed more than 2 years ago to TF2 players,

At least its here finally :p

Yeah I got confused when people were saying they're adding competive matchmaking, thinking to myself "wasn't that added like a year ago?!"

Also, valve always seems to release updates right before my Lan parties and screwing over people who dont update. Excited to try out the new medic change.

Is there really enough want for a competitive scene in TF2? I don't think Valve will want to invest loads into such an old game with CS:GO and Dota doing so well in esports right now.

As for Overwatch, I think it might turn into another Planetside. It's not a game for me, but meh. I get why people like it.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Planetside did not work out, because realistically, the organization required to totally DOMINATE all territories in that game is outside the scope of casual players have time for..

So if you play a back and forth which would never seem to end..   what keeps you there..

My friends don't stay playing one game for long. They're constantly switching over and playing other games. And for someone who don't get to play a whole hell of a lot it sucks that I have to buy a new game each week to play with them. So I finally said **** it and just started buying SP games instead.  :p

I had a good group for more than a year that I could play with on occasion, but most of them quit two or three years ago. Some went to different games, and some quit gaming all together.

I just don't particularly want to solo queue for matchmaking and come across toxic people. All the people who take it super-seriously are better than me anyway, so I hope they get ranked higher and I don't end up in their games. I just want to play 6v6 with people who actually care about the objectives and are looking to have fun.

We seem to look for the same thing in games.
I will say this though, I got used to solo queuing so I'm actually able to have fun just by my lonesome while playing Overwatch.
It sucks when everybody you play with quits or moves on to other things. - Although in my group, I was that person lol.

I stay out of the comms chat so I don't get to hear people calling me names for ****ing up playing Mercy.
