Hope all our Nice GH'ers and family are safe

Nice is such a beautiful place, it's so sad to see this horror spreading even to such picturesque locals. And during Bastille Day  :'(

No news if this was a terrible accident or a terrorist attack. Been trying to reach my aunt who lives just outside the city and haven't gotten her yet.

Another weekly 50+ dead thread. this planet sucks

"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

I am actually leaning more towards this being an accident and not an attack, based on preliminary circumstantial evidence. ISIS will probably claim it anyways though.

Unlikely an accident considering the truck was full of firearms and hand grenades :/ .

Yet another cowardly attack by lunatics spouting their message of hate. My thoughts go out to the victims' families...

It's not difficult for people to lose confidence in the government..

The entire economic system is fragile, because there are no actual Reserves of hard resources, and we run on vapor currency..

It may just be france now, but it's much cheaper to wage terrorism than defend against it..

At the rate that it's growing,  even America can not afford it..

WWIII guys..   I'm gonna be in my basement.. stacking cans of corn..

Reports are saying that along with the firearms and grenades found in the truck, the driver full on drove for almost 1.5 miles before he was stopped.  That's no accident.

Seriously ****ty to hear about though, I think this picture sums up my feeling about this somewhat recent trend...

Yeah, definitely not an accident. The situation reminded me of another story where a teacher had an epileptic seizure while leaving work and ran down a group of students, so I hoped this wasn't another pathetic waste of skin's attempt at being relevant.

Honest question though: Is the world actually worse than it used to be or has technology just made the world smaller so we hear about every awful thing as it's happening? It feels like things are ****tier.

A mix of the two. We have every happening of the world at the tap of a finger, and ****wits have too many things to be pissed about.

The world is no worse than it was.. People have not changed..

But what technology has done, is expose the great inequality in earnings to EVERYONE..

Exposure fundamentally leads to social unrest... the tech itself is just an accelerant... It is especially troubling to those who occupy the very bottom of our ladder-society...

At the end of every large state-civilization, you always see similar trends, flaunting of wealth, preoccupation with extreme hedonistic pursuits, orgies, drugs, alcohol

If this system continues,  Revolution is inevitable...

Sigh...   Back to stacking canned corn in my basement..

I suppose the one good thing about future outlook is,  the middle east, however messy it is right now,  temporary control is meaningless if they can not sell things..

So, without a functionally connected economy,  their army should just burn out until there's nothing left but small sects...

Hi guys didn't post recently.
I was lucky yesterday.
I ran when people told me to run.
Didn't feel real until this morning with the pictures and death toll.
I don't know what we can do more or better to stop this and still stay a Democracy.
Its a bad feeling.
Tears for the victimes and this world we live in.

I don't know how close I was maybe 200m at worst.
I'm trying to look online for people I know that could have attended.
Feel pain and anger for the unlucky ones.

The world has steadily and consistently become more peaceful and safe in the long run, ever since the beginning of civilization.

Here is an amazing read on the subject:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Better_Angels_of_Our_Nature

The astonishing rise in "Islamic Terrorism" (or whatever you want to call it) in the past half-decade is a painful but temporary blip.

"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home.
