Job interview today
« on: Thu, 18 August 2016, 09:47:38 »
So ive been at the same company for 7 years. I've moved up from phone agent to IT help desk tech. I have been the help desk tech here for 5 years, however.... I do the job of the system administrator and then some. help out 5 other sites. servers. sharepoint. etc etc. i went to the site director and my boss in Feb and said, and i quote "i need a raise or letter of recommendation" un quote. there was little to no response other than... well everyone is really busy so we haven't been able to discuss it... or we need to revisit and restart the conversations around it.

just had my second job interview today with a much better paying company (12k more per year for the same job if not less responsibility) i'm waiting for a call back...*bites nails*

wish me luck guys this would be an amazing opportunity for me and my family as my current financial situation rather sucks with my ****ty pay. also would help me build and develop more keyboards so good for you guys too  :thumb:

Good luck!  I know how nailbiting this can be... leaving security for more compensation.  But sometimes, you just have to do it.  :thumb:

Yea, these companies will ride you for as long as they can without a concern for your personal development.  You are better off somewhere else.

That's nuts! Congrats. I bet the feeling is surreal.

I've been at my place for eight years and my fingerprints are all over the firm (literally and metaphorically), so I bet it's going to be hard when I give my notice.

Indeed, your pay rise alone is not far from the highest salary I've ever been paid (when I was still being paid) xD .

Congratulations and good luck with the new job! :)

That's a fairly significant increase in remuneration too!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Congratulations!
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Congrats on the new job!

But don't forget those who you might consider friends who are staying behind. :D

I'm currently on the other side of the equation, two coworkers that I have worked closely with are leaving this week and it sucks seeing them go (glad they see a better future for themselves in where they are going don't get me wrong) and having to deal with their replacements.

It almost makes me want to leave but I have nowhere to go. :spam:

Most people I knew/know who use Axe use it to cancel out the smell of pot ^-^

Are you super excited to meet the H0t Female Coworkers ?

I'm excited for the pay increase more than anything else. I'll be supporting remote users so I won't really meet many people

They got Skype business,  you'll hit that up,  and arrange lunch, then dinner,  then a weekend

LOL. I received Axe sprays as gifts on a few occasions but I never really used them. When I say friends I know used them to cover up the smell of pot--I'm not referring to myself as a friend in the 3rd person, that's just weird. In the past when I did inhale I simply wouldn't leave the house. I envy the people that inhale and get **** done like it's completely normal. How the hell do they do it? Taboo stuff indeed

The majority do not get stuff done..

That's the drawback to most narcotics...

That's why coffee is legal vs the other hard drugs..
