itzmeluigi is a known scammer
« on: Fri, 21 October 2016, 03:29:51 »
If I had compelling evidence that a user on geekhack is scamming people on mechmarket using alt accounts, am I allowed to post it or call him out on it?

I feel as though standing by is the wrong thing to do, but is there any sop when accusing another user of being a scammer and presenting evidence? Should I notify a moderator or just let the community decide on its own?

Sorry if this seems stupid, I just want to know the best way to go about this.

**** it, here we go. The user in question is itzmeluigi

Hi geekhack, this guy is a scammer. He recently made an account on reddit for the sole reason of scamming people. Here is the evidence to back my claim:

His alleged alternate account:
https://www.reddit.com/r/mechmarket/comments/584x50/meta_scammer_uthisisawesome1226/

He's scammed people using an RS96/RS78/HHKB. ****ty, right? It appears this user was based in MA. itzmeluigi owns every single one of these boards. Not particularly damning, right? Hold on.

Here's our illustrious user's initial ban from mechmarket, reddit's marketplace for all things mkb:
https://www.reddit.com/r/mechmarket/comments/4lyehq/meta_scammer_uitzmeluigi/
Full disclosure, I am the user he had a dispute with. The finer details are not that important and you can glean what happened from the linked post. What is important was that he was doing some weird, defaming things that day, so I took a screenshot of his heatware at the time.

Here it is: http://imgur.com/zakQxg4

He's from MA, the same area that thisisawesome1226 was.

Neat stuff in the comments to demonstrate this man's rage: http://imgur.com/hFMzNQd
Coincidental that livingspeedbump was one of the ones to be scammed by this user?

So bear with me here. The timestamps' handwriting of itzmeluigi matches thisisawesome1226's timestamp quite well. This was honestly a bit lazy on his part but let's look at his penmanship.

http://imgur.com/9sVVXp6
http://imgur.com/Yc6xzVV
http://i.imgur.com/TKrgMmc

Let's compare it to:
http://imgur.com/iCUcvmo

All timestamps are taken on a black wooden desk. All timestamps use a black marker. I know that's really not much by itself, but things are starting to add up.

Look at the 'i' and '6' in particular.

Let's move on.

http://imgur.com/GBGJ26o

This is a cached version of thisisawesome1226's post history. He's deleted his profile while covering his tracks, but google still remembers. Look at that first post. A TGR A17 with cyrillic keycaps. Now if you check this guy's post history, you'll see he's a big fan of cyrillic keycaps. He even says he's got all sets of enjoyPBT cyrillic caps in his post history.

Well what do we have here?!

http://imgur.com/9sVVXp6

Looks like a TGR A17 with...cyrillic keycaps. Now, we can't just damn a man for having the exact same keyboard as another person...can we? Wait...hold on...His cached comment says vintage MX blacks 55, gold stabilizers, and BSP cyrillic. Hmmmm. Oh ****, that's the same keyboard itzmeluigi is selling! Since he has a bad habit of deleting things, here: http://imgur.com/xR9zE75

Draw your own conclusions. I just want everyone to know what kind of a person you're dealing with when you trade with this person.

I don't understand the scams these guys are attempting. It's such a small amount of money..  No way this would add up relative to the time spent on coordination..

Oh hey its this dude, The OP and his buddies dont really like me since we got into an argument and he randomly had his friends brought into the conversation since i guess he didnt want to argue alone (some also happen to be mods on mechmarket), i sold a plate to Mesteris a long time ago and he was very upset i took a long time to ship it out. He opened a dispute and we got in an argument which resulted with me being banned from mechmarket since he is good friends with people around there.

And to answer your accusations of me being a scammer.  I sold all my RS96's and only have one RS78 left now and whats currently displayed in my signature and listed for sale in my FS thread. And im pretty sure thousands of people have Ikea Linmon desks so yeah...

I dont use mechmarket anymore and have had a much nicer selling experience without it since being banned by your buddies, the flow of noobs on there is crazy anyway.  Your honestly just looking for an easy target to blame and of course you and your buddies dont really like me.

Whats the TGR A17 have to do with anything? Its still listed for sale in my FS thread.

Ive sold 100+ items here and i can go through my email and list to you all the people who are happy with the items they have received.

This thread also leaves some disputes open. If both cases have been closed, it would really help your reputation to have the users confirm it where they publicly raised it:

Say what you will. I saw the mech market post about a scammer, recognized some handwriting and felt obligated to call you out. I'm not friends with any of the mods on mechmarket, in fact I was warned (one infraction from a ban) during that unfortunate interaction with you. I've posted my evidence, people can feel free to think what they wish.

Those are perfectly lovely claims, but you can't prove you don't have a keyboard anymore, so it's not really saying much. You can have plenty of fine interactions here on GH. That's not what I'm accusing you of. You don't **** where you eat. I've no reason to go after you unless otherwise genuinely believing that you are scamming. Our mishap was over three months ago. I'm not targeting you with a group of buddies. That day I thoroughly went over your information and post history because let's remember, you tried to defame me on heatware, reddit, and you claimed you had banned me from your friends' groupbuys on GH. As soon as I saw that time stamp from the recent scammer, something didn't sit right. That handwriting looked very similar. So I did more investigation. More than one thing points in your direction. I would have never accused you if the information available didn't keep pointing towards you.

Let me reiterate, I'm coming after you as an individual. I had a sour interaction with you three months ago and left it at that. But you threatened to scam mechmarket users after your ban. You claimed you weren't shipping anything out after that day that you owed people. You laughed at the mods claiming your alt accounts would be untraceable. These were all just things I thought you were saying in the heat of the moment until I saw that handwriting.

I've dealt with itzmeluigi two times in the last 4-5 months or so. I bought a 60% plate off him and it actually happened during that scam alert thread on Reddit. I contacted him and he assured me that I will be receiving my item. Two weeks later I got my plate.

A few months ago I saw him sell green alps on here and I enquired about them. He remembered me from reddit and even asked how the build with the plate went. Anyway, I ended up buying the green alps and even paid it as a gift. He explained to me why he had to have it as a gift due to some banking thing and posting international (I really should've looked into it more!). I was hesitant at first, but I had previous experience with him and I really wanted the alps! So I did it. I was worried afterwards to be honest and was hoping it would work out. A few weeks later I got the alps. During the wait he was helping me with the alps build regarding the plate and soldering etc.

So I thought I'd just say that I've had positive transactions with him. Even when he could have easily taken advantage of my naivety during the second transaction. I'm not saying he is a scammer or a perfect member of this community. Just thought I'd offer my experiences so that there is more information for the community.

Recognized messy writing in a sharpie that looks pretty much the same everywhere? Well maybe you should become a graphologist.  Yeah your friends with a few mods and livingspeedbump who you had join in the argument. Yeah i was aware you got an infraction, and i got banned  :))  Well im not here to prove anything to "you", we already dont really like each other, so no point in trying to prove anything in that type of environment.  Yeah you are targeting me with a group of buddies who asked you to make this post who you are good friends with.

And it never actually happened it was said to serve as an example that if mechmarket mods want to permaban someone for using harsh language in a personal argument which would be the same punishment for a scammer then thats pretty poor judgement. It was said to make them salty, and well apparently it did.

Well okay thats fine, not sure it has anything to do with GH or MM then.  It seems we both already disapprove of each other as individuals so theres not much further discuss on that topic.

We mechmarket mods usually don't comment on mechmarket stuff outside modmail and reddit comments, but I'm going to make a short exception here.

Since the ban of itzmeluigi after threatening to scam several users of mechmarket we have encountered several scammers selling items and never sending the items to the buyer.

We don't have any decisive proof that the scammer(s) are itzmeluigi, but we have found several links between the scammer(s) and itzmeluigi that we strongly suspect a connection. These links include, but are not limited to, timestamps, email addresses, showing proof of owning/selling the same boards, keycaps and (non mounted) switches, etc.

Personally, the identity of a scammer is less important than finding the scammers early and avoiding more users to be affected. But I still felt like that we can't be silent about our findings as itzmeluigi is still active here on geekhack and the scammer(s) still keep popping up.

If you want to discuss this or anything else feel free to message to us on reddit (or send me a PM here and I'll forward it to the other mods).

Yeah i was aware you got an infraction, and i got banned  :)

That's because I didn't create a mechmarket review subreddit targeted towards defaming you. I also didn't leave bogus feedback on your heatware. I also didn't go around claiming I'd banned you from groupbuys. We can drop the PMs for everyone to see, but I get the feeling your case is going to severely weaken if they do. It won't be dignified, but it'll set the record straight.

Yeah your friends with a few mods and livingspeedbump who you had join in the argument.
Yeah you are targeting me with a group of buddies who asked you to make this post who you are good friends with.

There's something you're actually right about in that. I'm friends with livingspeedbump. Funny thing though, I'd heard he gotten scammed, but didn't really think anything of it till I saw the timestamp. Friends with the mods though? Not at all. You earned your own punishment. There was no group conspiracy to get you banned.

permaban someone for using harsh language in a personal argument

Once again, not what you were banned for.

In any case, I've presented what I believe to be evidence that strongly indicates that you are thisisawesome1226. Like I said earlier, everyone is welcome to draw their own conclusions.

It was said to make them salty, and well apparently it did.

The thing is, most of the boards your are comparing similarities to have been sold, go check the titles of my GH FS thread and you can see most have been sold a while ago. I can easily tell you who they were sold to if that even matters.

If you dont have proof then dont accuse innocent people of being a scammer by telling someone to create a thread. It creates unnecessary drama and wastes everyones time involved(i had to login and read all this crap). But thats probably the reason Mesteris was asked to make this post.

Anyone can create any type of subreddit they want, and in this case the mods got salty about it. They dont own the subreddit so its really none of their business. They even went as far as demanding me to handover ownership of the subreddit to them or they would permaban me for that also. At that point the care cup was empty.

Yes you are friends with several mods^, and when you had livingspeedbump join the argument, the argument only got more absurd.  Someone happens to scam him, and you decide to automatically try and blame me. Good job.

You can think anything you want, no point for me to even bother or care about changing your mind, regardless of how absurd it is.  I dont use MM and dont want to.

Just a warning, please keep things civil in this thread.

As a rule GH mods do not take action against GH users for things that happen off site. If there was foul play through GH, let someone on the team know and we will investigate accordingly.

As will all transactions, the buyer and seller must use their own judgement. Sometimes things go wrong with the most respected users.

Going through luigi's post history, three things stick out. The love of cyrillic sets, the love of RedScarf's and the deleted imgur pictures.

An innocent person wouldn't delete all their pictures, pretty obvious to everyone that it's the same person.

Most pictures in my post history have been deleted for a while if you looked at it before, boards i no longer have had for a while get deleted from my imgur album to keep it organized.  If you go through my FS thread and check the titles you can see i sold my RS96's.  RS96's are extremely common boards also, its not like there rare.

Same state, same boards, same desk, same handwriting, both banned for scamming...

Another note, on your luigi reddit account, you wanted to buy a 6u stabilize, perhaps that was used in a RS96? :))

Its ikea Linmon and a sharpie, very generic stuff dude.

I found a good source for 6u stabilizers a while ago and built five out of the six RS96's i had with them and sold them all. Again theres a lot of RS96's out there that have 6u spacebars. You think im the only person who builds RS96's with 6u spacebars?  :))

The OP and his buddies already dont like me, so thats their motive. They simply wanted to get me banned because they dont like me.

I don't understand how you can just lie so much.

itzmeluigi used a PP a while back to pay for something to mesteris. the same name was on the PP of the scammer that scammed me (thisisawesome1226). https://www.reddit.com/r/mechmarket/comments/584x50/meta_scammer_uthisisawesome1226/

the "scammer" has multiple PP emails (usually hotmail emails) which has been discussed in the scammer thread on reddit, but the names always match up.

itzmeluigi and thisisawesome1226 are without question the same person.

I don't understand how you can just lie so much.

I won't post the PP info here in public but I'll send it to anyone that wants proof/to see it if you are buying something from him. I would strongly recommend avoiding that at all costs though.

I dont understand how "you" can lie so much.

I asked you for more info about that RS96 revision etc, to see if its possibly someone who purchased one of mine or not. If that actually is the case, then anyone can put whatever name they want on the PP. I use a nickname for my PP name so i highly doubt you or the scammer has my actual information. You and the entire MM crew have a strong disliking for me and its insanely easy for you to edit and tamper with the originals, any proof you could have is not proof at this point.

Nonsense, I do business with PP and as long as users dont pay with the gift option with PP its impossible to get scammed. Even if you pay as a gift as long as you paid with a credit card through PP you still have protection, and in most cases if users did pay from their PP balance with the gift option, PP will usually help out and give a refund if you call them, but its always best to avoid paying with gift from a PP balance.. Thats the 100% proper way to use PP.  Ive done tons of business here on GH with many happy users.

Lol. dude you are just digging a deeper hole. I got zero experience with you but I got a lot with livingspeedbump. First off, he wouldn't waste his time going all this effort to "diminish" your image. Honestly you are a nobody to the community comparing to what he has done for the community. Secondly you have done nothing to prove your innocence except claim that everyone has the same belongings and everyone can edit everything.

We already know what is going to happen. This account will either:

A. Be banned and you will just create another fake user and keep posting.
B. You vanish and create another fake user and keep posting.

The ripster effect.

I am currently trying to work on a Paypal dispute after getting scammed for an RS78 from thisisawesome1226 about a month ago, myself. All I know is, I just want my money back and feel awful for getting scammed on one of my wishlist boards.

* ghostjuggernaut puts on mod hat

Just a warning, please keep things civil in this thread.

As a rule GH mods do not take action against GH users for things that happen off site. If there was foul play through GH, let someone on the team know and we will investigate accordingly.

As will all transactions, the buyer and seller must use their own judgement. Sometimes things go wrong with the most respected users.

So guy decides to scam mechmarket users as an attempt in getting banned.

Does not take in account backfiring.

Backfires.

Tries to save situation by lying.

Love it

Is -user- yoshilikesmxbrowns  an alt-account of  ---itzmeluigi---

It seems really odd that yoshi is digging up old threads everywhere to maybe bury this one.

Not accusing anyone of anything..  we don't even know if itzmeluigi is or is-not a scammer..

But yoshi's behavior is very odd.
