Day 1 : Posts the caps on DT, easy peasy , no time stamps and crap like that, we trust each other .... forgot, on DT nobody is interested in that
Day 2 : Posts the caps on GH, timestamp , oh well if you have to do it .... crap!!! If it's not CC or Bro or Fugu no chance to sell anything here too .....
depressed ....
Day 3 : Uuuuuu I know, sell on MM, I was able to sell **** over there in the past !!!! Lot's of interested people.. arghhh timestamp, can't recycle timestamp... not the same user name... welll no problem.
Composes nice text, puts decent prices, clicks save...WTF!!!!  Receives instant message "You don't meet minimum post requirements" . Reads the requirements, something about Karma, agnostic here, never believed in Karma or afterlife. Goes on Slack and whines .. some are friendly "You just have to post 10 comments", others are asses . Refuses to understand, PM's mods on MM...answer "You need 10 comment karma, it's easy".....WTF, I'm agnostic, I don't believe in that !!!!
Day 4 : I forget about all the drama, decide to go with wife and daughter to see Trolls. I was there at 11:00, no seats left, OK buy tickets for 12:00, should be fun. I buy a MCSundae and enjoy it with wife and daughter. 12:00 ... buy a Pepsi and wait for the film to start... It starts, oh they sing !!! and everything looks like a huge acid trip .. even my daughter was bored me feel proud
Day 4 1/2 : Back home again, let's work on that karma. How hard can it be  Well... it's hard... I'm a hater and a whining twat ... sees a post about fake fugu...makes a snotty comment...feels proud ... couple of hours later checks proudly his karma ... WTF  -13 ... **** I commented on a comment with a haircut  16 people got butthurt ... got downvoted ... his karma is nevative ...does some damage control and deletes post ... wishes all the downvoters catch a terminal disease .... changes attitude some butt kissing should make karma look better ... few hours later Karma no longer negative 0 .... feeling bold, makes a snotty comment on a k3kc thread ... downvoted again .... some butt kissing again, made a nice comment on a Pulse keyboard  .....
Day 5 : karma still negative counts comments, it shouldn't be like that, OH .... it's not counted if you are not also upvoted 
 Now I feel depressed, lost drive to work on my Karma, lost any hope to buy Skeletor or a red clack .... but it's still a bit happy he got in Secret Santa, at least can try to make a nice gift to another user

Nope, it's anywhere on reddit, with some exception /r/freekarma , you get banned if you use that one. Rules, rules, rules .... and those karma whatever say only one thing, you commented in a way that pleases the masses.... and even if you kiss some butt and get 10 karma you risk loosing it the first time you make a comment that upsets the "great unwashed" .... Ups !!! he did it again .... Note to myself, never ever say what you really mean ....

is it the karma for that subreddit or just reddit?  You can just post on random subreddits if it's the latter.  Also, I like the format or reddit where it's basically articles/pictures with comments, but the user base there is pretty cancerous.

karma for any reddit, except for /r/freekarma for that you get the banhammer .  For me the format is confusing, like a bunch of PostIt's, took me ages just to get around that maze  me old , me like simple things

Kidding aside, there are two reasons we (speaking as a mechmarket mod here) have a requirement for karma (comment karma specifically) on r/mechmarket, and I think they are very similar to the requirements for posting on GH classifieds (account must be 2 months old and have at least 25 posts).

First, we want to encourage community participation on r/mm and r/mk (and elsewhere on reddit). Second, we want to make it less easy for people to create new accounts to make it more difficult for people to scam or get around the rules.

Just participate, from my experience.  For the longest time, when I was paying attention to my karma, it wasn't moving, and I experienced the same level of frustration.  When I stopped paying attention and just participated, over time, organically, it increased, and I couldn't point to any one thing that made it so.

Edit: apparently your karma isn't changed for posting, only for upvotes and downvotes.

All you need to do is comment around reddit a bit and be a little active and you'll get plenty of karma. I think 10 was settled on because it's a fairly low amount and should be pretty easily achievable, but provides a slight hurdle for those trying to start alt accounts, etc.

Now I will be serious for just a moment, and also honest: I have reached a point in my life where GH and DT are all the forums I can digest, I love the members here (not all of them but it's normal we are human), so I really have no drive to contribute to /r/mm or /r/mk, no offense but I just don't have the time.
I have visited in the past only /r/mm , it's sometimes a good place to buy and sell and I did both without scamming anyone, having some confirmed trades and being a 1 year member would be enough. I wanted to give karma a try but a system where you are at the hand of othet users, many well intentioned while othet are just frustrated with no sense of humor, well for me it's wrong.
Here on GH there are rules, but each comment is mine, sometimes I don't say nice things and I regret some things I say, some not, but I'm not judged by some anonymous coward system, people either ignore me or reply....
And that's my last comment in this tone.

To clarify: Post karma increases just for creating a new post, without needing to be upvoted.

Comment karma does not.
