One with the longest warranty. Mine ****ed up just before expiry of 3 year warranty. Washing machine guy came out and told me it would cost hundreds to repair as the whole mechanism would need replacing. I said hang on I think its still under warranty. He said oh ok call them up. The warranty company came out and turned out it just needed a new belt. Turns out the washing machine guy may have got caught out trying to rip me off.

I have heard that front loaders have a habit of leaking, but this was years ago and they probably have improved the general design since then (also it was most likely only a particular kind and people fear mongering new concepts). I would imaging the seals on the front of the machine just add another part that wears out over time.

Kinda depends on how long you intend on keeping it I guess and the safeguards in place to stop the machine from pumping soapy goodness onto your floor.

Washing machines generally have settings for delicate people clothes, have you tried setting the top loaders to pansy wash?

We just replaced a Maytag after 20 years. It had developed a very slight leak, but was otherwise still going strong, and the wife wanted a "matching set" - the dryer had actually stopped working properly (heater problem, not motor).

We got a "high efficiency" Whirlpool set that seems good enough so far (6 months). Much slower but uses far less water and probably much less electricity.
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."
