Depends on the quality of liquor more than the type. Regardless of spirit, if it's good quality, it'll likely go down well.
That would Probably be true 50 years ago.
But making clear clean alcohol is Not a very complex process relative to today's technological capabilities.
And we have strong regulations ontop of expensive production licenses..
I doubt any industrial producer would risk making spoiled products just to save a few bucks on quality control.. even if they're making $3 vodka.
The -High end liquor- is only high end through some gimmick/ story telling, rather than any processing improvement.
In college we purchased Hundreds of Liters of plastic bottle vodka.. No one ever got sick from the mixed drinks.
What made some people sick were the complex liquors, like wine, patron, guinness..
