Looking for a tweaked bottom row
« on: Sun, 16 April 2017, 12:09:14 »
I was wondering how I would go about getting a normal layout, except on the bottom row the space bar is moved to the right by an option key.

Go from this:
166026-0

to this:

166028-1

thanks

This is 100% not possible on current plates because of where the stabilizer has to go for most keycap sets.

You would need a custom made plate to do this..   for the wiring side, you can probably drill through the pcb and just jump the wire for the switches..

But it's not -trivial a mod..

if you're not a carpenter or have any electronics experience,  you would not be able to pull this off without significant learning investment.

Custom PCB, custom plate, and a good keyboard platform to work from.

The Phantom has the "7bit" layout which supports 1.5-1-1.5-1.5 on the left side... but getting a Space bar that fits somewhere in the middle and modifying a plate is probably not so easy.

Thanks for the replies. I figured I would have to go custom, just wasn't sure the best route. I don't want to change spacebar size because I want to use my existing keycap sets.

Right now I'm not sure how I would go about getting a custom plate that is compatible with the phatom-compatible cases (like the TEX TKL cases from mechanicalkeyboards.com). I can use http://builder.swillkb.com/ to order a plate, but I don't see any physical dimensions listed after the cad output is created. Maybe I'll ask over on his thread.

After that, I'll either need to custom wire into a teensy or hack the bottom row of an existing pcb as suggested by tp4tissue.

Thanks
