HHKB USERS: ENTER IF YOU DARE MUAHAHAHAAAAA
« on: Sat, 13 May 2017, 10:09:32 »
oh wait my capslock was on and medication off - this is much better.

Anyhow I'm taking a quick poll.  How many of you have used your stock NON-Type S HHKB in an office environment and had cubical neighbors get bothered by it?

The only keyboard anyone ever complained about was mx blues but we have actual offices and there is always some low hum from either the computers, the HVAC or some other equipment that runs 24/7.

I would be more bothered about using such an expensive keyboard knowing I had cubicle neighbors.

But I say it depends on how quiet your office is.

And if you put a folded piece of drawer liner or something between the hhkb and the desk that helps with sound as well.

Also I think a lot depends on your typing style and what you are actually typing. Some people are just loud typist no matter what they use.

Used an HHKB without any silencers and it was fine, then again, I was in a small office of about 7 people and we had big cubicles.

****ing wish they were using hhkbs

Used one in an open office plan with 6 people within about 10 feet and never had any complaints.

I'm almost certain they pumped white noise in though. It was never confirmed, but one day it was oddly louder and everyone noticed...

Either way, I think the deep thock is generally less noticeable than other switches. No one ever mentioned my HHKB, but everyone would remember the cherry reds a coworker used, although he did type like a baboon.

I use a Realforce and the guy next to me uses a stock HHKB, in an open office. No complaints this far, just jokes about our "old, retro keyboards".

Dunno who has a problem with the HHKB being too loud. I find Browns louder.

I use mx blues in a classroom of 20 people, and they don't have an issue with them. I think it's because they are mounted on a stainless steel plate inside a 5 pound case with 1.5mm cherry pbt caps.

I used an HHKB Pro 2 in an office, but it was a newsroom. No one cared about keyclatter when you're watching for incoming Nerf darts, haha. The only disruption it ever caused was when people would ask me about it.

EDIT: It was an non-S-type.

It heavily depend on your background noise level in the office.  I work in an open concept office with about 7 people around me, but there is always that ambient AC noise which cover up most of the sound anyway.

I've had Realforce, Type Heaven, and MX Brown at work at different point and no one ever complained.

But for the most part I think HHKB sound level is pretty close to the standard rubber dome most office use anyway.  :thumb:

Some of my coworkers are overweight, but I haven't noticed any that are actually cubical (cube-shaped)... Is that a thing now?

Unsilenced Topre is great...

I think they're quiet enough to use in an office..but if you're really concerned I'd go with Silenced...I don't think normal Topre is really all that loud...

HHKBs will get attention in other ways..especially if you blind out the caps a bit..but from sound?  Not really..

Currently using a stock HHKB, and haven't heard a peep from anyone. I rotate it in weekly and no one has ever complained about noise.

I've seen some people who are EX large..  i could imagine them overflowing from a Japan Cubicle..

American cubes are quite large though.
