I have found the community at Geekhack much more friendly and laid back compared to Deskthority...

your spamming is just more annoying on DT than GH since it's a slower forum.

You really need to understand where people are coming from.

The spamming is annoying, but at least the posts are fine.

There have been users in the past spam-****-posting, and no one likes that.

No need to post this though, just making drama that isn't needed  :thumb:

It was thoughtful spamming filled with love

Someone was saying recently that there hadn't been any good drama for a while :))
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Some serious S.H.I.T lords going on here:

https://deskthority.net/keyboards-f2/my-ibm-3278-beam-spring-keyboard-t16696-60.html#p375225

 :p

So, you come to a new forum, and instead of hanging around, and seeing what the community is like, you post indiscriminately and then hold them at fault when they don't just take it at face value and expect them to adapt to your habits.  And then you come and post about it in another forum?  I think alienman82 had it right.

No need to post this though, just making drama that isn't needed  :thumb:

I kind of agree. "Harmless trolling" is pretty eccentric behavior though, some communities can tolerate it more but it's especially noticeable on a place like Deskthority. That kind of behavior can be a bit off-putting to some people. It's not like you're the first keyboard collector with deep pockets (subjective term, of course), nor will you be the last. Play the long game...share your finds without posting in 20 different threads in one day about it, keep contributing, etc. etc. People will come around. Who really cares if you don't get thanks? Just keep at it. Try one of the many keyboard Slack or Discord chat rooms if you're just that anxious to talk about your stuff all the time  :))

More friendly tips..it might not be the best idea to post your stuff in people's buying threads unless you're offering...

I did hang around and contributed a lot to the DT forums by providing great keyboard finds and taking pictures of my IBM 3278 keyboard manual page by page and providing a PDF, no thank you and no respect was given!

If you can't handle a little harmless trolling you shouldn't be on the internet at all, end of story.

DT members expect a higher salt/wit content from their trolls than you can provide

I just read through the thread, and this is what I took from it;

•After getting butthurt, you create a second account to spam the forum, yet you are still bewildered to why you are not welcomed Don't forget the obnoxious need to post I voted for DONALD TRUMP.

•Your profile says "I got moolah" and your eBay purchases are easy to pinpoint.

•You come across as someone who simply googled "best keyboard switches" then bought the first board containing those aforementioned switches that popped up on eBay, only to brag about it.

Yeah, seems like you deserved it.

I really enjoy lurking on DT now that our GH Alps thread has quieted down.
I've come to view humanity as predominantly monkey business.

I mean, they do.  But GH has it's problem too.  I think it's just that people suck, more than the boards in general.  I've had some good interactions there too- helped me make my first custom keyboard.

to be on topic:

DT never had an issue everyone there is polite to me, but that might be since I didn't join until graduating from the noob level

GH was really good to me when I joined and still is, but I stay far away from the artisan community here since all the drama and bull **** is there

Reddit is not as interactive, so I haven't had any issues at all, but some other subreddits like the vinyl ones are full of left wing politics that are thrown at you when you just went there to check out some music...

Internet is a big outlet for shy *******s, so there will always be at least one around

Predominantly , this sector attracts youth who were poorly socialized.  Because of their low social caste, this is the one place where they don't have to take any disagreement.

This leads to pathology through internet use as they create within themselves a deluded self image empowered by anonymity.

They now foster this conflicting self with the outside contrast , ever constructing new ways to lament and ruminate..

As it grows more extreme, it turns into things like  fat h8,  or anti-gay,  neo-nazi..  because to hate is really all they have to balance against the neglect they endure afk.

// Ya'll must be thinking..  Yea ok, Tp4, you should talk, we're barely sure you're human..

// GDI guys,  A Robot would only be m0ar qualified to judge humans reliably..

You just have to go in and experience it for yourself. I’m not going to name specific examples because it seems cheap of me to list them in a different forum, but considering I’m not the only one to have noticed then I can't be crazy.

I have found the community at Geekhack much more friendly and laid back compared to Deskthority...

That's very nice of you... We think you're swell too!

For what it's worth, Deskthority's based in Europe, where people generally tend to be more reserved, while Americans tend to be gregarious. I don't think anyone's trying to be one way or the other; it's just the cultures we've found ourselves in.

So why are we 'Muricans so giddy-yup, rootin'-tootin', in-your-face types compared to most Europeans? I'm no sociologist, but here's my theory (and yes, I admit it, this is largely an excuse to make a bulleted list):
  • Europe is much, much older than the U.S. It has thousands of years of history; the U.S., a few hundred. For all its high-profile attention-getting, the U.S. is just a baby among civilizations. As people age—as as a people, as well as individuals—they tend to mellow out, to like themselves, to not be so concerned about what others think of them. Thus it becomes less important for them to continually jump up and down, waving flags, shooting off fireworks and shouting "Hey, look how great we are!" and so on.
  • Americans started out with the restraint and sophistication of British people, because they were British people. But then they decided to go rogue and form their own country, basically ripping off the huge exploratory and developmental investments England had made in their (England's) American colonies. To do this, it was necessary for the rebel government—criminals, technically—to convince these new Americans that they were tough, powerful types who could do anything (e.g. face down the world's biggest military power by sniping at them from hidden places, rather than marching formally into battle as "civilized" armies had done for centuries). This also instilled in them the roots of the "I deserve everything, and I want it now" mentality we see today, and which has drowned us in debt and silly, unwanted possessions.
  • Cowboys. We decided we should have the whole continent, not just the part we really needed, and that it didn't matter who else was already there (see "I deserve everything..." above). To facilitate this, the colorful image of the righteous, gun-slingin' frontier adventurer (i.e. cowboy) was created and sold to us, with which we continue to identify—a mindset recently and tragically reflected when we allowed a belligerent, ignorant, intolerant, egomaniacal, self-described Master of All He Surveys to grab the reins of our country's wagon, a decision that has only begun to damage our relationships with people around the world, steer the Titanic of our species back toward the iceberg of climate change, and create other irreversible, far-reaching consequences.
So what I'm saying is, it's all relative. I don't think DT's full of snobs; they're just not yahoos like us.

That said, I like you, my fellow yahoos—even though most of you, especially here, are highly technical, detail-focused types who wouldn't know an example of artistic license if it was right on your screen in front of you.

The people I know here in DK really love the USA. Most have visited, and are going to visit again.
I myself would love to go back and visit a bigger city than the one I was at the first time I was there.
