Everyone hates exercise.
There are people who enjoy it. It produces a lot of endorphins.

Just need to force yourself to become addicted to it.  Much easier said than done, but once you get into a habit it becomes much easier to do it.

They do not enjoy it, they have merely tricked themselves into thinking they enjoy it.

The chemical addiction should be possible,

But in face of all the other addiction potentials modern humans are exposed to,

I guess we could more accurately say,  it's not addicting ENOUGH...

Every day, my exercise bike is saying to me, thanks for throwing away 25 minutes of your life..

Come back tomorrow, and the next day, and the next

I hated exercise until I discovered Space Pirate Trainer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yveZtkkQJWs).  It's not the most intense exercise, but it is exercise, and it's fun.

I'm not against gamez..

But, I feel like, the exercise efficiency and fun-factor, may both be lower when put together..

Well, are you doing anything with the fruits of your labor? If not, then ya I can see it being more of a chore. Go on a hike, climb a rock, do cartwheels. Something.

I swim. I don't usually look forward to it, so I do need to set myself to it, but once I'm actually doing it, and especially after I'm done, it's pretty satisfying.

Oh, an exercise bike would be nice. I have torn ligaments in both my feet so I can't walk long distance or go running or use my sis' cross-trainer which is just standing here wasting space. I have been told it would take a year before my feet would have healed.
I love biking but the weather is horrible for it: right around 0°C, which means that roads are covered with either slush ... or frozen slush.

You could combine using the exercise bike with watching television, or listening to a podcast or audio book.
Mount a wireless keyboard to the flask holder ...

You can get used xercise bikes for ~$50 on craigslist.. They're pretty much almost brand new most of the time, because it is the case that 90% of exercise equipment purchased are used exactly ONCE...

I tried watching tv shows along with exercise bike for a while.. and it worked out initially..

But I suppose lately,  I've just begun to see this large disconnect..

I could do all these things to make myself FEEL-better, on the exercise bike..

However, what's happening regardless of how I FEEL, is that I am throwing away 25 minutes of my LIFE, Everyday..

I've been doing this for years..  25 minutes.  that's 2.5% of  my waking hours..  and whenever the thought comes, I have this profound sadness wash over me..

I suppose partly, I dislike how modernity has forced individuals into roles so thoroughly detached from evolutionary design..

Even if I can accept the changes intellectually..  I know that my systems have not been tuned for this.

+1  I always have more motivation when I'm doing something other than lifting heavy things in a room or running/biking in place.  Nothing wrong with those things, it's just harder to get myself to do them.

Have you tried kettlebells? There is a host of exercises with minimum foot movement.

I enjoy running when I'm not in terrible condition (the first few weeks after an extended layoff suck). I enjoy cycling more (road and mountain). That's not to say there aren't times that it's miserable. Stationary bikes are boring as hell though, not enjoyable at all.

I look forward to lifting weights at the gym until I actually step up to the bar, but the payoff of setting PRs is enjoyable.
Maybe they're waiting for gasmasks and latex to get sexy again.

I Love (I do this as much as possible)
Riding my mountain bike on trails
Jogging with my wife (she speed walks, I jog)
Taking a 15 minute walk at lunch (resets the head for the rest of the day)
Taking the stairs instead of the elevator
Parking at the far end of the parking lot and walking

I Like (I do these at least once a week)
Throwing Kettlebells around https://www.fitnessblender.com/videos/15-minute-kettlebell-workout-video-1x10-kettlebell-training
HIIT routines https://www.fitnessblender.com/videos/15-minute-hiit-workout-no-equipment-hiit-cardio-at-home

I Hate (I never do this)
Stationary bikes
Treadmills
Climbers
Any exercise machine does not challenge the brain enough = BORING

I'm more used to going to gyms, however to optimize my time I started "investing" in kettlebells. I had somewhat of a disdain for the general kettlebell exercise recommendations coming from powerlifting etc, but all I had to do is get the heaviest kettlebell I could find and I'm right happy again. I recommend them if people are tired of the bike, you can get decent cardio from them, as well as build some muscle with the right exercises.

There's a number problem to any Complex Outdoorzy-ness though..

Putting pants on , and shoes, walking out the door,  + Reverse of all those things,  takes at least ~5-8 minutes.

If my total workout is only 25 Minutes on the stationary each day,  25% to 32% additional time cost is Significant..

No, that 5-8 minutes ONLY takes the mind numbing torture, from inside the house to outside of the house.

To turn it into something you ENJOY,  this is subjective,  but It's certainly a further step above the extra 5-8 minutes for pants.

I love to go to The View (local community center) and do 30 minutes on the treadmill and a few laps around the track. Can't do that for a while, due to difficulty with rides.

My gastroenterologist on the other hand has me doing burpees at home. Go from standing, to squatting, to prone, then 1 push-up, then from prone to squatting to standing. As fast as possible. 8 of these in a row. Only need to do it once a day, but it's a huge pain, but the doc wants my heartrate up.

If that doesn't give you an idea of what burpees are... they're a high-intensity military exercise, designed to test agility, coordination and strength. I have none of those.

Cirrhosis from NASH, as a result of obesity, itself caused by poor diet, psych meds that increase appetite and cause weight gain, and a bout with diabetic ketoacidosis.

Gastroentorologists don't treat leaky gut syndrome anyway. It's not medically recognized as a legitimate health issue--it's only supported by alternate medicine practitioners and nutrionists, neither of which have spent any real time in medical school. There is a condition that increases permeability of intestinal walls, but it has a specific set of symptoms, and not the vast amount of health issues leaky gut syndrome is claimed to cause.

Alrite Carcharocles..

I know your current doctors have probably given you the Standard information packet,

-- There's no cure for diabetes
-- You lack exercise
-- Don't eat carbs
-- Lean meats
-- NO SUGAR...

At this point you will need medication for what you've got,   but Take a moment to consider going 100% plant based @ 10% calories from fats..

Here are some basic videos which explains the latest revelations on the disease, its cause, and its cure

Remember to take what the doctors say with a grain of salt, You ARE his meal ticket..  What we know about diabetes TODAY, is that it is a CHOICE, not a real disease.

Yeah, no. Don't do that. Sorry, I don't buy into quackery, homeopathy and fraud, and if I find out a doctor is listed on Quackwatch (a very well regarded site, btw) I will simply ignore anything he says. I find it helps me to stay alive.

Besides, Diabetes has been known for thousands of years. Most of that time, only the rich could afford a steady diet of meat, and well, it still wasn't a rich man's disease. Vegetarian diets are only healthy if planned with care, just like meat-rich diets. And Vegan diets are only healthy if you spent time planning your meal in favor of precise amounts of protein and vitamins first and taste last.

Guess which one of the three is affordable at 750 dollars a month?

There is also no cure for diabetes. Period. Diabetes, specifically Diabetes mellitis type 2--is insulin resistance. The only pathway to good health is to blood sugar management--which you do by cutting down on carbs, avoiding simple and empty carbs (ie cane sugar or corn syrup) in favor of complex carbs (fiber). You also have to focus on portion control, so you can lose weight, which sometimes--but not always--results in remission of diabetes, but not a cure. It can always come back, even if you don't gain weight.

Hahaha.. Carcharocles..  Did you watch the videos ?

I mean, the video is not authoritative, and there's some critical thinking involved to follow the facts.

But, we know for a fact, that diabetes is NOT incurable,  because we now have definitive information about the Cause to Type 2 which is what most people have..

I'm not so sure why you're so dead set on believing that there is no cure...

Tp, please stop. I don't don't believe there is a cure for diabetes because there isn't one. And if you keep trying to get me to practice a lifestyle I can neither afford nor survive, I'm going to block you.

I entered this thread with to talk about hating exercise and the doozy of one I've been told to do. I didn't expect, nor did I want, a non-expert on my health issues to throw bad advice at me. I'm not in the best state of mind this week, and I really don't want to end up saying something stupid and getting banned because I was triggered by this s**t.

The latest advances on diabetes is not a secret..  If you take 2 seconds to google it, you'd find tremendous resources and information on people who have gotten their life back..

Veganism has alot of bad people too, and I can understand that you're frustrated.

But it is not from the holier-than-thou place I'm coming from..

I USED TO BE
the main proponent of Top-Ramen/ Fried Chicken/ and Sausages on Geekhack,  Until serendipity struck, and I went completely plant based..

I've made at least 100+ threads about those 3 items.

I didn't go willingly,  and I will be forthright, I do not quite care for animals either.

But the SCIENCE is already there, convincingly so, available TODAY..

Your beliefs are not thoroughly wrong, but they are OUTDATED ..

Type 2 Diabetes HAS BEEN CURED.... You should be excited..

This is correct..  Tp4 is ol'  merely casually trying to save Carcharocles's life..

Carcharocles,  take a good hour,  either youtube it, or google it.. Either one,  This is new stuff, and It works..

Project your life ON medication.. Go to he hospital and visit long term diabetes patients, THEY DON"T DO WELL under the current Control -Regime that you're adhering to..

Meanwhile, We HAVE THE CURE..  why is that not an exciting prospect..

tp - let it rest.  You've completely derailed this thread and are essentially harassing users.  Keep the veggie talk to the veggie thread and the h8ing exercise talk to the h8ing exercise thread.  This may be the off topic subforum, but these threads do have unique topics which would be nice to adhere to.
