How much money have you spent on keyboard(s)..(including keycaps, wires, mods, etc..) for the past three years?

I just got started by a guy who introduced me to HHKB about a week ago and I think I have already spent too much

Incoming stuff: gasmasks ($40), bunny caps ($10) (woo)

So total: 388 in the past month. (I did not wanna add that up haha)

Just a ballpark guess, but I'd say approximately $4,000. I got started in December of last year. Jeebus, that's only 6 months. Yikes!

If we sell something is it subtracted from our total, because I'm going to be selling a lot of my stuff.

I can get exact numbers later, but here are some approximations-

Unicomp- 100
Pure- 200
Poker- 100
QFR- 100

IMSTO caps- 150
SP caps- whatever the stock ones cost

Ergodox- too much between the case and group buy losses alone

Around £850 over the past 9 months on the stuff in my sig which I think works out at around $1300.

Before I discovered this place... I'd say oooh... approx £100 (G15) over the 20 years or so I've been using a pc - y'know just whatever came bundled is what I'd use

ErgoDox, keycaps and springs: 300$

Total: ~650$

I don't think ErgoDox is the last keyboard I'll ever need. I will need second ErgoDox to leave at work, or maybe a Kinesis Advantage to use at home?

In order of when I got them:
BTC Foam and Foil = free (and it'll stay that way. I might tinker with the springs in the gaming side so it has a consistent actuation pressure there, otherwise it's a cool piece but not worth anything to me anyway....)
Chicony KB-5181 = $2 (it wasn't listed yet, I asked for a price. The lady said $8, but changed her mind last second to $2. I don't know why because I had pretty much already bought it at $8)
Model F XT = ~$17 (an eBay purchase. It was between this and a $10, shipped, M. I decided I valued rollover more than $7, plus the M was kinda beat and would've needed work anyway)
Teensy 2.0 = $20 (to make the F XT work and to later tons of other boards. The most worthwhile purchase, recently)
Bits and Bobs to make the Teensy work with my boards = $2
2x Model F 122 = $72 (for both. From one of the pictures, it looked like the guy had a warehouse. He did and I asked him to look for any keyboards like the one in the picture but with a metal bottom. He found two and I bought them both)
More Bits and Bobs for the F 122s to work with the Teensy = $5
Parts M from eBay = $30 - $5 (I say it for $30 shipped, so I took it. I wanted ANSI parts then and there and I had the money at the time. He messaged me that it had a sticky spacebar and took $5 off. I got it and EVERY key was sticky... Cleaned it up, used it for a day or two then took the ANSI bits from it. I'll post the conversion on the forums when it's done and I have time. Now the M will be used for some "little" fun and "shiny" projects I have in mind)

Total = $143

And the people at school think I'm crazy for it...

$200 if you include the filco wrist rest, WASD sampler, replacement space bar and o-rings. Not bad so far:) I don't think I'll ever get to the magnitude that I am seeing in this thread.

If I add it up over the years and include keyboards I've sold or tossed or worn out?

Around $2000-2500 in Model M's - that's including M, M5-1, M5-2, M13's (some of which were bought new. Makes that number SCARY.)
Keytronic's got about $200 from me in their pockets - I used to use the FlexPro heavily and gave many to friends.
Focus, hell, easily another $300 since I had really, really bad luck with drops/spills/pets and those. REALLY bad luck. And I was paying $50/ea.
Chicony specifically probably has another $250 - think I was paying $50/ea for those and I know I bought 5.
Miscellaneous boards are probably another $750ish all said and done ranging from junkers for diagnostic work to PS2 keyboards that got broken.
Few recent purchases don't count since I got refunds, but add another $150 for a Ducky soon as it's on sale.

So call it somewhere north of $4,150 over the course of 23 years.

It doesn't get truly scary till you add keyboards I've gotten jobs to pay for. Goes right into the "oh my gods" territory.
3151's at list, HHKB Sun, SSKs, DEC LK461's, three or four SGI keyboards (SGI proto with IndyCam), $400 PC-Sun adapters, Sun Type4's at list, two Kinesis Advantages (original and Pro), two M13's at list, a couple M4-1's, and at least four ThinkPad-in-cases (various versions.) The total is probably north of $5,000 by the time you get through all the DEC/SGI/Sun alone.

Qpad MK50 browns - 85€
a lot of Cherry keyboards and stuff - some free (1800HAD, 3000LAMDE), mostly cheap on eBay, together maybe around 40€
Apple Extended Keyboard 2 - 5€
Apple M0118 (salmon ALPS) - 9,50€
ADB-USB converter from the US - 12€ + 12€ shipping
Mitsumi mechanical - 2€

So all in all around 150€ I guess. Not including shipping fees (usually just German "DHL" for 4€ per piece). Everything in around 7-8 months.

Well that 'kind of' makes me feel better........

but I'm at at least $2.50/post (1449 posts) right now using a quick download of paypal and excel magic.....but not everything went thorugh paypal so I had to add a little on top......and for transparency sake I threw up a small bit when I realized this

Why do you think I'm trying to exclude all the work keyboards and the other input devices, man? I am terrified of that number. I'm a Unix guy. A Unix guy frequently in charge of the data center. Just the 1U IBM bundles alone (required to get the keyboard of course) used to run north of $3.5K each! ;/

Probably $200 total after trying a ton of boards then selling them (very small loss in $ on resale on lightly used stuff) and just returning back to my ergo alps I already owned plus my QFR.

Nothing compared to some people.

I have 3 Filcos, which were all around 160 dollar.
I spent about 150 on keycap sets, though I am selling at least one of them atm.
I spent about 100 on novelty keycaps
I spent about 20 on o-rings
I spent about 25 on a custom USB cable

Around 800 dollars, though most of that went to the actual keyboards and they will last me a long time. So it is fine I guess. Do not really regret anything.

This thread should be a wake-up call to get most of us to winnow our collections down to somewhere between 3 and a dozen keyboards.
