I do hope everyone here have deleted their Meta and X profiles

I created Facebook and Twitter accounts 20 years ago or whenever they were started.

Facebook I only use to follow a photographer friend who posts his photos there. I can count my contacts there on my fingers and toes.

Twitter was something that I never used but the account sat dormant until the kerfuffle with the Musk purchase started, and at that point I deleted it immediately.
And, as I recall, you had to make it "inactive" or something for a month before you could delete it entirely.

I'm still on Twitter and plan to stay on there. I find it important not to close yourself off to what people you disagree with say, personally. Too many people only listen to news and opinions they agree with, while I think it's important to know WHY I disagree with my opponents.

That said, Twitter is a very depression cesspit by now.

What percentage of posts in your feed are from friends and family, and how many are advertisements and targeted content?
None, why?

Can anyone please explain why companies are giving money to the Trump inauguration? I really do not understand their perceived obligation. Is there a law that they have to? And how is it determined how much the event will cost, and why is that not covered by the government? I'm quite confused.

why companies are giving money to the Trump inauguration?

Because he demands it. He is actually calling rich individuals and corporations and telling them "We haven't gotten your inauguration donation yet."

It is pure grift and most of it will go into his pocket and not be spent on the inauguration at all. And he is tracking it like a hawk and knows exactly who has, and has not, coughed up and exactly how much.

That is his world. You don't think that he is sitting around pondering domestic and foreign policy matters, do you?

The democrats do the exact same thing.  They all got call centers where the office holders go and "grift" rich people for "donations".

They're bending the knee (I.E. covering their a$$).

This is a guy who doesn't play by the rules, likes revenge and is easily manipulated by money, get on his bad side and he's going to make it rough on your company. On the other hand, get on his good side and you can do almost anything you want business-wise and maybe even get him to mess with your competition. A million dollars is a drop in the bucket for these companies and could save their company billions later from baseless investigations and lawsuits.

No, just no.
Calling and asking is one thing, calling and telling them it would be a shame if the FTC/SEC/DOJ/Congress/etc investigated your company but they can make it all go away for a small donation is not the same.

Stop with the both sides B.S., one side is very clearly playing by a different set of rules.

Llann, this is not true,  Politicians ALL demand compensation, the only difference here is demeanor. Trump just has an ugly personality about it.

Getting anything done in business involves grift of some sort. Just the other week, Tp4 was called out by another company with a warehouse problem, they had an improperly built drainage, and was getting ingress of groundwater, it's not severe, but it's clearly not regulation.  WHY was Tp4 called, well, he's gud' @ recognizing the engineering requirements, but also, he can solve problems such as this much cheaper in other ways.

Calls up the right people, merely 6 benjamins into the right hands, and bam, approved.

I was afraid this was the answer. Donations apparently happen for every inauguration, but after just a little digging, even Trump's first term his administration requested them, and didn't demand. It seems like he is playing a completely different game this time. An openly corrupt and dangerous game.
With all these companies I'd have expected to be more liberal and fight his policies bending the knee like servants, I am even more worried about the next 4 years. If a billion dollar company cannot say no to him, who is left in his weight class to fight against his policies?

Outlook: Not good

With all branches of government under MAGA control, including the last-last-resort Supreme Court, they will be free of almost all guardrails.

Roberts and Barrett whimpering out the tiniest of protests last night was embarrassingly little far too late.

I'm not so sure it's MAGA.
Everyone assumes they removed the guardrails for Trump but they haven't really worked in his favor all that much. Yes, they've been working toward giving the presidency more power in expectation of a Republican president, but Herritage Foundation, which includes Thomas's wife (who picked all of Trump's Supreme Court justices) and Vance are playing a long game, they may have been using Trump to get Vance and therefore Herritage into that position. Trump cares about image, money and power, Vance is an ideologue and that's far more scary from a governing perspective.

That is absolutely right. But they will be happy to have Trump in place temporarily as an anger sponge.

That's not how money works.

The peasant educational system is a double edge sword. They become easier to manipulate, but have an unrealistic view of the economy and the scope of real resources.

Society NEEDED class warfare to maintain efficiency, but we're way past the planetary boundaries under that system, what we need now is AI-powered Communism.

BBC News catches some very delusional quotes from Trump about Greenland.

"I think the people want to be with us," Trump said when asked about the island in the press room on board the presidential plane.

"I don't really know what claim Denmark has to it, but it would be a very unfriendly act if they didn't allow that to happen because it's for the protection of the free world," he added.

"I think Greenland we'll get because it has to do with freedom of the world," Trump continued.

"It has nothing to do with the United States other than that we're the one that can provide the freedom. They can't."

Despite Trump's apparent confidence, the prime ministers of Greenland and Denmark have both previously said the island was not for sale.

I am just going to put this here and ask the question: But what about the kompromat?
To rattle his support base, I'd think it would have had to be irrefutable evidence of a serious crime that they would care about, on the level of murder, rape or treason. Everyone already knows that he is a scumbag: rapist, scammer, liar, adulterer, and is utterly incompetent for the job. His supporters just don't care.
Any videos of him with Russian prostitutes wouldn't change a thing.

To rattle the man himself, it would need to be something that makes him look weak ... even in his own eyes. If there is something that he is afraid of, it is looking weak.

Also, about the piece-of-pravda itself:
If you intend to convince a Russian ego, it is very incompetent to say that "they helped us win the Second World War".
Over in Russia, the war is known as "The Great Patriotic War" and they still have yearly parades celebrating the victory and commemorating the lives lost, to which the Russian leadership attend.
While the US lost soldiers, but only a handful of people on their own soil, for Russia it was a fight for survival: not just for soldiers but also the USSR/Russian populace. There are millions of individual stories about both military and civilian hardships during the war: For example the siege of Leningrad — which was where Putin was born and lived before he became President. They take it quite seriously. Trump's message can therefore be taken as being disrespectful.
A bad start to any talks, which, if Russia is going to concede anything, would have to be done in a way without Putin losing face.

Like a child he's just saying whatever he can to justify what he wants, though it's really not what he wants it's what Elon wants. Greenland has a LOT of lithium.

Pretty much everything he does is at the urging of a billionaire, much of which aligns with what his base wants but only because those billionaires convinced them it's what they also want.

Pretty much everything he does is at the urging of a billionaire, much of which aligns with what his base wants but only because those billionaires convinced them it's what they also want.

I don't think there's any convincing in the sense that there's some sort of push-back disbelief.

In the same way You don't need to convince the store, that you want the food, you just pay them money, and they give it to you.

Trump administration, akin to all governments, do exactly that. Biden Trump Obama, they all SOLD FAVORS. That's really a fundamental function of "governance."

The Radical left will frame it as some sort of moral battle ground , but it's not, they are equally as amoral. Obama is equally culpable in the largest assassination / terrorist campaign committed by the united states against the middle east.  Only, when WE do terrorism, we call it Liberation.

We killed 3 to 5 million people in Iraq, under the pretense of WMD which WE- KNEW they  DID NOT HAVE. This is murder/genocide. How is it that 300million americans sit comfortably numb and not bothered by what just happened, fully documented, completely undisputed fact of history.. that happened Less than 10 years ago.

Same reason why we sit comfortably knowing, we genocided the Indians and took their stuff.

If you want to try Putin at the hague, Obama should be tried , Bush , Clinton, all of them. All presidents serve the American Imperialist Military Industrial Complex.

So, just becareful not to be so quick about your political stances
, who's really the good guy in the game of thrones?

The answer is, it doesn't matter, not from our perspective because our distance from ANY seat of power is too far.

From OUR perspective,  our only option is to steal food and work as little as possible to minimize the HARM that the war machine ultimatly imparts upon the Ecosystem.

And of course NONE OF THAT STUFF MATTERS..  IF we don't stop eating hamburders.   We won't have a planet to happily genocide people on.

Apparently egg prices will not be coming down, and from now on you should expect $10 eggs.
Usually inflation is gradual, but eggs went from $2.99 to $9.99 overnight and we are just supposed to accept that? I DO NOT ACCEPT IT!

WTF is wrong with everyone else they they keep letting these things happen and not doing anything? We need 10,000 more Luigis to set the status quo.

Accept it, stop eating eggs, NT of all people with the heart condition. You don't understand how bad it's going to get. Imagine walking to the mail box and feeling out of breath, That's the reality for millions of americans.

Eating unfertilized dead chicken abortions is cultural baggage. Recognize it for what it is, it's unhealthy and pretty gross. Be better.

It's not about what you eat, never has been. It's all about quantity and quality. Avoiding PROCESSED foods and not overindulging in high-fat items is the key. No need to starve yourself or avoid what you love. Fat people cannot have just one spoon of ice cream or one cheeseburger a month, they have a mental empty hole to fill. Obesity is a psychological disease.

Eggs are all-nautral nutrient-rich whole foods that are a fantastic source of protein, vitamin A, D, and B12, iron, folate, and selenium. There is literally no singular replacement for them.

Everything you've just said is incorrect, bro-science half truths.

Eggs are not natural foods for humans. Cholesterol damages the endothelial cells of vessel lining causing scaring which is the precursor of all atherosclerosis. Statistically, a single egg a day is equivalent to smoking 3 cigarettes.

You clearly possess those holes you've described, all concepts surrounding Lack of self control apply.

Eggs are not a high source of vitamin A, D, and B12, iron, folate, and selenium, relative to its caloric/cholesterol density.

Nutrient Rich on its own is meaningless marketing. Cement is a Nutrient Rich source of minerals. It's important to recognize your entire concept of nutrition is built on Industrial Advertising.

The average person knows NOTHING about nutrition beyond the parroted TV Ads and that thing their aunt said that one time on the toilet. .

Heart disease is like never having enough gas to get where you want to go. Only it's your body, and you want to climb stairs to use the bathroom, but you can't.

True that.

If you say that you can't see the difference, it means that you are blind.

Choosing the lesser of 2 evils means that you are not aiding and abetting the greater of 2 evils.

A lot of people in my immediate surroundings are getting quite depressed from all the Trump stuff. Can't lie, it's affecting me a bit as well.

Blatantly pardoning violent insurrectionists is one of the worse ones. It's clear that he is willing and able to have armed militias do his bidding and pardon them at his whim - and doing the opposite with people who oppose him.

Worse though is his stance on international politics, with actual imperialist urges and threats of military conflict if allied nations don't relinquish sovereign territories to him. The amount of parallels with Hitler and Czechoslovakia are beyond counting by now.

This premise is entirely plausible, but there are much easier ways to killz people without causing a fuss, unless that act itself was demonstrative of some-point.

Paul Krugman wonders on his Substack why Trump went so hard on the tariffs for Canada and Mexico and so “soft” on China.

So basically this is a slap on the wrist for an autocratic regime that is a dangerous rival and even potentially a military foe, versus a body blow to a democracy that is arguably our best ally.

Wait, it gets worse. China runs a large overall trade surplus, which isn’t always a bad thing but in this case does reflect China’s attempt to export its way out of the failure of its domestic policies. Canada runs roughly balanced trade.

Bottom line: I can’t think of a reason punishing Canada with tariffs, let alone treating our neighbor far more harshly than Trump is treating China, is in the national interest. Trump’s spokesperson says that it’s because of the fentanyl pouring across our northern border, which wouldn’t justify tariffs even if it were happening — which it isn’t.

The Tariff won't do anything other than fill some money laundering buckets.

It has none of the foreign implications as described in the media from EITHER side. Canada can't divorce us, they're trapped with US husband wife beater.

From an environmental perspective, higher tariffs are better, but the carbon savings you get here pales in comparison to the Additional Military Spending.

So we're still going down hill.

The worst problem is no one is even talking about animal agriculture, the root cause of climate change when accounting for land-use opportunity cost..

Haven't you heard? Mention of climate change has been purged from all government sites, so it is no longer an issue. We're saved!

Yeah, the Canada thing is just crazy. Beyond crazy. They've done nothing but be positive allies and strong trade partners. There is zero reason for this bull****.

A lot of speculation Trump and his cronies are pushing for a nationwide food shortage to enact a state of emergency where he can stay in office and circumnavigate the law more easily. This is becoming more likely each day.

We need more Luigi's, where are they? If I am this angry, there must be people more angry and desperate for change than I. Where the hell are they? DO SOMETHING!

In my darkest paranoia, I wonder whether Drumpf and the Muskrat will be able to dip their pump directly into the well of the US Treasury and suck money directly into their own private coffers.

In that scenario, tariff money that came in from the outside, directly into the Treasury, could be diverted and routed to be more quickly and efficiently siphoned out than some of the other funds.

Whatever else happened around it (ie increasing the pain and difficulty of the daily lives of a majority of Americans) would just be collateral damage.

Why is fohat worried about something that was already happening, it'll happen at exactly the same rate, only into different bank accounts. The entirety of washington is a revolving door between corporate and politics. The best government money can buy.

There's absolutely no difference operationally between what we have NOW, and block chaining it.

The economy is a made up model of what really happens, (tokenization of value) it doesn't become more or less made up, just because you add blockchains to it.

For example, to clean up a single forever chemical, would cost more money than the entirety of the economy. That's 1 chemical pollutant out of thousands.

So the ECONOMY as we know it is externalizing 99% of the cost of _Business_.   THAT in itself is the root of the problem, no amount of blockchain is going to solve the fundamental death spiral we're in..  We only count the things we like, and disregard REALITY.

We LIVE in a world of PERVERSE INCENTIVES.

Dead trees are worth more than alive

Dead whales are worth more than alive

Dead turtles are worth more than alive

SICK -> Dying Humans are worth more than alive.

Is it any wonder that we're on the verge of the Cataclysm>>?

TL;DR

“The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too,” Mr. Trump said at an evening news conference. “We’ll own it and be responsible” for disposing of unexploded munitions and rebuilding Gaza into a mecca for jobs and tourism. Sounding like the real estate developer he once was, he vowed to turn it into “the Riviera of the Middle East.”
