When did you know you've become OLD..
« on: Wed, 12 June 2013, 10:40:38 »
I knew it distinctly when I had ice cream in place of dinner for a week straight, and still didn't have any acne. only old farts like me with low hormone fluctuations can do this.  compared to when i was say 14

When you realize that, almost without question, even if you are very lucky, that you are in the second half of your life.

"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

I felt old the other year when my knees started hurting and I had trouble walking. The "feeling-old moment" happened in the subway when I couldn't get off the car before it filled with new passengers. My knees have improved since, though.

When I started losing my hair. RIP bangs.
I had noticed significant hair loss at the ripe age of twentyfour. I used to wear it long, at most as long as down to my waist, but I realized that I had to get it cut short or it would look ridiculous. It was a sad moment at the hairdresser. A year afterwards I noticed that my short hair was still too coarse for any nice hairstyles so I trimmed it short myself and have done so every week since.

My wife and I are sitting on the couch with our newborn, and her wrists hurt, and I have a pair of tennis elbows -- we're both trying to manuever the infant around, and wincing from the pain. We look at each other and almost simultaneously say, "Pfft -- we're all f*cked up! LOL!"

The oldest verified human life was just short of 122.5 years. I will hit half of that in early September.

The oldest verified male is still alive at 116 and I passed half of that a couple of years ago.

Maybe people will start living longer, but I have my doubts. My goal is 100+ and my realistic goal is 94.

There was this moment when I realized I was actually older than a good number of professional ice hockey players.

...and one more thing, the T-V distinction. I $#@!ing hate when kids talk to me using the V-form.

I hope I won't ever become old mentally.

the most recent one was last week i went to the post office and the lady behind the counter said "you kids, just like my daughter, you don't check your mail", i'm like "how old you think i am", and she's guessing i'm a "20 something"...

this made me happy to be thought of so young!

she had to do a double take and look at my dob (since i had my license out already to verify my address)

then she said "you asians what's your secret!"

i said "hair dye" i'm not even dying it funky colors, just black to hide the greys =(

When I heard a song I listened to in high school in an elevator.

Quote
I can see a new horizon
Underneath the blazin' sky
I'll be where the eagle's
Flyin' higher and higher
Gonna be your man in motion
All I need is a pair of wheels
Take me where my future's lyin'
St. Elmo's Fire!!!

Really hard to hear this song in the elevator music version, with no lyrics, and then resist the urge to shout "St. Elmo's Fiiiire!" at the appropriate moment.

(Krog hangs his head in shame.)

Sure, the current generation has Psy and Ke$ha and other pop culture horrors, but dammit, so did my generation.

exactly my story. ex-act-ly.

When you start turning grey
also this
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Steppenwolf

Whenever I consider complaining about the music that my kids listen to, I cannot help but think of Steppenwolf.

My father hated Steppenwolf.

"Born to Be Wild" had just been released as a 45 when I got my driver's license, so it was an ultimate anthem for me.

Dad loved some of my music (that is, Creedence Clearwater Revival) but he hated Steppenwolf most of all.

There are inklings here and there.  When you can't handle your alcohol like you used to.  When you can't sit through a movie without having to use the bathroom.  When your kid graduates high school.

Being called "grandma" for the first time.  It really hits home then.

If anything I find alcohol has less of an effect as I get older.

You know you're old when your wife tells you she's 'late' and it means she's constipated.
