« on: Wed, 25 September 2013, 16:59:16 »
The eyesight thread made me thinking.
You sit and stare at a screen for 10+ hours a day, it cant be strictly work related or studies.

What fun stuff do you do in front of the computer?

What, you mean what I do physically in front of my computer other than doing stuff on the actual computer? Or do you mean what I do on the computer?

1. Sleep
2. Shower
3. Travel to other computers

Work, rest and play.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

That makes no sense, they're not connected? and they don't influence each other..

Probably not - but it is something that he does in front of his computer.

hmm, i hope this is a joke.  If not, then you might want to talk to a psychotherapist.  Watch out for psychiatrists though, they hand out pills first, and ask what's wrong with you second.  Meds are not necessarily bad, but I don't like the blanket pharmacology you get from most psychiatrists. If you worry about your monitor and mouse pad every day, and it's causing you anxiety, or interfering with the rest of your day, you may have OCD.

i do it gently and in a well behaved manner.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

I move a beige oval-shaped piece of plastic around on a table and press buttons on a keyboard.

Windows 98 does have good dial-up support, but I run all my machines on DSL now and set them to access the internet through my LAN. I do miss the dialing sound the modems used to make though!
