I'd follow your guide for watching "Lost" for sure. Or I'd actually shorten it to: Watch first episode, skip, skip, skip, nothing happens, the end.

For me, Game of Thrones goes like this: Friend recommends series. I go to friend's house to socialise and watch first season from BluRay. Watch at normal speed because socialising, so time not wasted. Repeat for each season. Lots of beer and snacks consumed, good time had by all.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

I saw a couple episodes.  Story line feels weak and they keep you interested with sex scenes, gruesome murders, plenty of machismo, and a little bit of the powerful dragon lady.  I just could not keep interested.  Had too many keyboards to attend to.
Wish I had some gif or quote for this space, but I got nothing

the main problem I feel is the scattering...

Not everything in ONE book is interesting...   Given narrower time to tell stories on TV... they should've adapted to sieve out just the golden pieces, then if some interlock is needed, just do an abridged intro of those backstories..

For example...  that snow guy...  I'd assume they'll need him later, when he comes back to fight for justice along with the original dudes family that got beheaded...  so they've shown him join the Wall thing,   why not just leave the rest of that out,  and when he needs to come back,  cast him as haven grown-stronger, more experienced,

have him shoot a bird out from really far away, then film some surprised character expressions, and done... he's now established.. as the well trained heroic guy from the wall..

Instead.. we got all this detail of him at the wall , which isn't the least bit interesting.

Not sure what you guys are complaining about.  The story and (especially) the characters hooked me instantly.  It's all interesting to me and it's all relevant to the plot as a whole.  Some of it is more riveting than other parts, but that is true of any work of fiction (or real life for that matter), and it doesn't mean that the stuff that happens during the "boring" parts is unimportant.  If you're watching for the boobs you're wasting your time.

I binged the first season, then read the books, and continued watching.  If you think the show has a lot of fluff, don't read the books. :D

arya and the hound shouldn't be missed

season 1
?
season 2
season 3
season 4
https://www.youtube.com/user/TheRisingGKGears3/search?query=arya

That's the only story I could predict with accuracy though, even though it's a good plot line. I called Arya would become a Faceless Man and come back to kill everyone early in season 2, before I ever read any of the books. Most everything else went the oppiset of the way I thought it would though.

Seasons 1 and 2 I couldn't keep track of who everyone was because there were so many characters, so I was glad that there was lots of sex and stuff to keep me amused.

Now lots of people have died, it's a lot easier to keep track of who is who, and I'm enjoying it even more.

My PT at the gym has read all the books so we had some nice discussions as to how the season differed and stuff, and what to expect with no massive spoilers. The group of guys I used to play EVE Online with used to spoil everything to piss people off, so I just had to go with it. This was probably the first season where I've not had a single episode spoiled for me.

Feels good man.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

I dunno what you mean, but I take it that the final result would be that the white walkers break through, scare the bejesus out of everyone, forcing them to put aside their differences and re-unite under Daenerys and her dragons. After the victory, we go back to the status quo: Targaryens on the throne, feudal arrangements that leave most of the houses intact and on their ancestral lands, the peasants back to toiling under their feudal masters.

That's how things always ended during the Middle Ages in Europe. Took a very long time to change, and I dont' see that on the horizon at the moment. I'm only seeing endless medieval bloodshed still.

It's not a happy ending. It's just the kind of ending everyone would be forced to accept to survive against the white walkers.

Probably all the surviving houses (eg Starks) will have lost most of their members by the end, not to mention half their castles will be ruined, lots of peasants will be massacred, etc.

This is actually the kind of ending that made countries like France, Germany and Italy and more out of lots of feudal fiefdoms.

I don't know what you're talking about, Prince Oberyn is alive and well and recuperating from his difficult fight.
