How to un-Lube a HHKB pro2?

So I recently lubed my HHKB, and I hate the after effect.

While it isnt horrible it just doesnt have that magic it had when it was untouched.  So now that I have ruined it, is there a way to clean off the lube from the switch sliders?


Would it be as simple as just wiping the lube off from the sliders?  Im afraid to use isopropyl alcohol on any of the ABS plastic as it might melt it or something.

Or maybe dissasemble the whole thing and soak it in soap water?


I have no idea, ive never done this before.  Suggestions please!

Warm soapy water. You'll wanna clean the top case, as well as the sliders.

Cool, im going to have to give it a shot.  Do you know how to remove topre stabilizers?  Seems kind of complicated to me.

Once the keyboard is open, use something thin, or your fingernails to pop the wire up and your all good to just pop it out like the rest the sliders.

Also.. Pre-break in keyboards will feel different Lubed   vs  POST-break in keyboards..


Pre-break in may feel unsmooth and gritty and sticky.


That said ,  you should probably take your HHKB and throw it away,  because

It doesn't really have nearly the same design to have the same phenomena.

They're smooth to the eye,  but put it under the microscope, you'd see it's all canyons for a while.

I lubed with EK-mechlube 2.  I've been told that I should not use it to lube the HHKB here on geekhack, however on reddit I heard otherwise.  Alot of people used it to lube their HHKB's on reddit and came away happy, so I decided to just do it because it was killing me inside.... I had to know what my 55g HHKB felt like lubed.



While in my opinion it didnt make the keyboard worse, it just made it different.

Pre-lube the HHKB to me personally had great aural and tactile feedback.  So much thock.

After lubing, it kind those two things kind of got lessened.  Its still there, it just went from a 9/10 to like a 7/10.

 

On the flip side, lubing it absolutely made the keypresses smoother.  Although, in hindsight the keypresses pre-lube were already smooth.


So yeah basically, it took away the thock and tactility that I crave for.



Edit :  Oh and I only lubed the switch sliders, nothing else.

I don't think they do to the same extent, but for example - I know that some Type-S have a squeaky noise that disappears after it's been broken in (mostly).

Hhkb is perfect as is. No need to lube anything. It's not like ****ty mx where you need to find ways to make up for their ****tyness.

If you want to remove anything from plastic, use isopropyl alcohol. Very safe way to handle plastic and electronics.

Soapy water works too but only if you disassemble the entire keyboard to separate the electronics and completely dry the parts when reassemble.

Topre Weaknesses:

Non-uniform key resistence. (very difficult to make every rubber cup the same)

Stiffening of domes as rubber loses oils. (further resistance divergence)

Replacement parts not readily available.

Wait... I don't need stickers for my HHKB and RF? Do I need sip sockets? Do I need a custom plate? Do I need a foam mat inside my board?

To OP... I don't know who told you to lube a HHKB, but I'd stay away from them in general.
