So I spilled a little beer on my HHKB*.... Update: she lives!
« on: Mon, 04 August 2014, 22:38:33 »
Update 8/7/14: After extensive cleaning and some extremely delicate reassembly, she's back in action!

Oh god, I have to get all these springs and domes back in place? Of course the JP variant would have single row sheets of 4-6 domes instead of the much larger sheets in a standard HHKB or Realforce

Needs some minor tweaking but things are back in place...

however I have to do the silence mod before I can reassemble since I will need the plungers to hold the rubber domes in place now that they are unglued.

In the name of speed, EK Softlanding pads were used and hand trimmed with nail clippers

After successful reassembly and flipping of the PCB, it's time to lube!

I seem to have messed up a few of the silencing pads as the U I O P J K L ; ' keys sound the same, but the rest of the board is sooooo quiet it's amazing... if I feel brave maybe I'll sort out the keys that didn't end up silenced, but for now I'm just happy to have my HHKB back

lub u HHKB  :-*

----------------------------------------------
I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and band + lube it while I've got it in pieces waiting to make sure things are dried out - thoughts? Those that have tried both silenced and stock, which is your preference?

Please, take my mind off my crime against Topre so I'm not agonizing over it the next few days!

I loved the o2dazone mod on my Realforce. I'll gladly suggest that. It doesn't affect the travel at all and significantly silences the upstroke. As for lube, I used krytox gpl 205

Just take responsibility and marry the girl. You don't want to be paying child support.

Did you make your own rings with a punch or go with straight up dental bands?

Made them with two punches and a very thin sheet of silicone.

ah... sorry to hear. I hope you will have no problem get it back up and running. Also, I recommend you to silence and lube your keyboard while you are at it!  :thumb:

From what I gather I'd want 9mm and 12mm punches to make the correct size? sorry for all the questions!

I feel like there's some kind of Serial Experiments Lain joke I'm missing here  :))

See if I do that, then I need another ErgoDox or two for work.... and more keycaps... such an investment! I would like to add one of the collection some day but I've got my eye on other goodies first  :p

Meeee tooo, I love this board, it'd become my daily driver at home, and it's so purty with my "looks like Sifo's Soul" Spirit Red BB V2! I had no intention of ever opening this guy up but necessity demanded I learn how to do so rapidly... I'm going to have to blow something up if I can't make it work again!
