I really hate doing this, but it bothers me to no end...

It's spelled "urge".

Urg is the sound I make before I yak.

And like metalliqaz said, just try to delve into the "Making Stuff Together" subforum to begin your learning process. You can also check out Group Buys to learn what parts go into certain custom builds.
My wife I a also push her button . But now she have her button push by a different men. So I buy a keyboard a mechanicale, she a reliable like a Fiat.

Cheapest way to get switches is to check the classifieds here.  And they are usually used, which is even better (worn cherry switches > new ones, unless you're talking blues).

Otherwise, I use MechanicalKeyboards.com

For PCB's, I like going with Korean Custom PCB's, so you would want to check classifieds and group buys for those.

Soldering equipment...make sure your iron has temp control (try not to spend less than $40 on it), and get a solder sucker.

Precisely my thought when I saw the title.

What is the compulsion for newbies to re-invent the wheel?
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

Welcome to geekhack.   You might be best off to start by modifying an existing keyboard rather than starting from scratch. There is a lot to learn and the experience will likely improve your choices on your ultimate board. It will also help you to know what specific questions to ask.

Nothing wrong with that as long as they keep the new version round.

In any discipline, one of the last things you learn is how little you know.

I highly recommend the Hakko 888d soldering iron.  Read up on all this and know what you're getting into first.  Stuff stats adding up quick and will be more expensive than you thought it would be.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Erg :P

Switches: 7bit, or check out the next Gateron group buy. I heard there might be one on Massdrop
Maybe some people who got in on an old one would have bought too many and would sell off some soon...
