Any Geekhackers onboard for AMD RX480?
« on: Wed, 22 June 2016, 12:59:39 »
So.. basically the AMD RX480 price to performance works out to be 2.13x that of Nvidia GTX1080

For every 1 frame you're paying $8.23  on GTX1080

For every 1 frame you're paying $3.85 on RX480

It can overclock as well, making it almost 1:1 with a gtx 980 (non-ti)

I think if you are still gaming 1080p, going about RX480 is a waste. 1440p, then 1070, if more, only then look at 1080. Obviously rather than two RX480, get a 1080.

I can understand some peoples opinions, but as someone without alot of dough for a pc, and a pretty crappy card, I think I am.

Currently I have one R9 280 (Non x) and am considering selling it now, and buying 480x when it drops.

It depends, I dont really play any games that my GTX 770 cant handle. Maybe if something super cool comes out I will drop 200$ on something other than keyboards

I'm on a Gigabyte Windforce 7950 still and at 1440p.  The RX 480 is looking nice, but I'm not sure I could justify it.

I hear trading artisans for video cards is a thing though.

Especially for the fact it's cheaper than buying 290s and way more power efficient

I'll get whatever next-gen card that is mITX-sized and does not have coil whine.
... or MXM, if that catches on in time.

The RX 480's PCB is about an inch too long ... and that does not count the size of the cooling fan hanging out the back.

I should be picking up a 1070 some time near November for my 4790k

If I had a AMD CPU, I'd go for a AMD GPU

all cards have coil whine..  it depends on the frame rate.

I still have a gtx460 that works just fine but is showing it's age in certain games. Especially since 1920x1200 is apparently just a bit more than some newer titles can comfortably run. (I'm running GTA V @1680x1050 to make it run okay)

It's a very good stop-gap for when upgrade next year and build a new pc.

You know there is absolutely no benefit to pairing Nvidia with Intel and AMD with AMD, right?

99.9% of people do not have a 4k monitor. I know no one irl who owns one.

Remember 3D televisions and touch screen PC monitors? Yeah, neither does anyone else.

well..... there was this thing, i can't remember what it was called ,, something 0 latency render something for cad work.. where it uses the integrated graphics to do some real time calculation thing, and that would work better with amd amd pair..  because the then gpu can work in tandem with the igpu..
