The robots are killing us already..
« on: Thu, 13 July 2017, 09:38:06 »
The ongoing topic of aging population and sub-replacement rate fertility Grossly misses the mark.

---> The Sun shines on the earth

--->  plants convert it to building blocks for animals,
--->  humans eat the plants,
--->  Make Babies.

That's how it was..    With advancements of society and intellect, we have..

---> The Sun shines on the earth

--->  plants convert it to building blocks for animals,
--->  humans eat the plants,
--->  Make Gadgets.
--->  Make Babies.

TODAY.

---> The Sun shines on the earth

--->  plants convert it to building blocks for animals,
--->  humans eat the plants,
--->  Make Gadgets.
--->  Make Gadgets.
--->  Make Gadgets.
--->  Make Gadgets.
--->  Make Gadgets.
--->  Make Gadgets.
--->  Make Gadgets.
--->  Make Gadgets.
--->  Make Gadgets.
--->  Make Gadgets.
--->  Make Gadgets.
--->   Make Babies.

It doesn't matter how you try to manipulate money in the workplace, or how many old people you force back into labor..

Once you've decided that you want gadgets more than children...  The decline is set..

The Solution CAN NOT be framed in terms of reducing consumption..     nothing is ever created or destroyed,   we really have to be accurate about the idea that the Human process is a Conversion of Sunlight into Souls..

You have a continuous TRILLION dollars industry  converting Human effort and lives INTO electronics..    Most of these items DO NOT and often WORK against the desire to Invest into  __ Babies __

Babies are boring,  they suck at math, they can't do nothing,  can't run Crysis on a baby..

But jesus christ,  Those of you lucky enough to haz a female,    Please produce at least 3x..    2 to replace ,  and 1 more for America- Great- Again.

Everyone is trying to ram AI down our throats yet ...... They want to first put people on Mars?  Why not send robots androids first and let them do the grunt work.

Seems a lot less risky, no?

We have sent robots/rovers to Mars, multiple times... But for the same reason we were drawn to walk on the moon or explore Earth itself, there's no replacement for directly experiencing some things yourself. (Obviously, for those two examples I just gave, more motivations are/were in play than an urge to explore...)

I, for one, welcome our robot overlords.

I realize we've sent robots in the past; I'm referring to sending much more advanced models with enhanced AI.

Freeze him now,  and thaw him out whenever we need a movie..

All life is, is patterns that happen to be self-perpetuating. Anybody who tells you any different is GROSSLY missing the point of natural law.

This is the best thread title since the butt eaters.
I generally hate all keycaps. Keycaps are for poofs. Real men touchtype on stems. Non-functional artisans are awesome, I use them for the ESC key ... escape is for cowards anyways, real men go frontal assault.

I think what's happening is,  my arteries are clearing up so much,  that I'm getting TOO MUCH blood flow to my brain.. bringing upon this state of non-nonsensical delirium.

Have you not seen the original Star Trek movie... They come back, smarter, trying to find their creator... And then it just gets weird.

People are going on about the planet being overpopulated since the 1800's I don't really think we're headed towards irreversible collapse.

They're always talking about crisis and fear being the stimulation for consumption but it's probably lack of drama that's doing that. If you're in actual peril you're going to be baby makin' cos death is all around you. We're overdue a world war or a good plague.

Currently sitting up at 3am with a feverish 2 year old. Doesn't happen much. Kids are easier than adults most of the time and when they aren't it's easy forgive them for It. Having dependents is a nice motivator I'd spend my life procrastinating otherwise. I don't know how people can have 3+ babies close together though without 4 year gaps it'd be incredibly hard work.

Yeah by all accounts it's a ****ing nightmare but I think people do it to get the really demanding bit out of the way in one big lump.  I can't imagine finally carting my kid off to school then going right let's start again with another one.
