I think I'm rdy for 75" TV
« on: Thu, 04 July 2019, 15:16:38 »
Looking to prime day.

TCL w/Roku is the only (sensible) option for 75" + PC

The Samsung tv suite just isn't as good for PC connection.

The Sony, (Bleh) Tp4 can't afford Sony.

OLED = Burnin,  so none o' dat..

of course TCL has a drawback on their big sizes , the 43 inch has 1:1 pixel mapping, but 49 and up use spatial dithering.

ANYONE using 75" 82" or 86"  ??  Thoughts ??

It's really substantial, floor to ceiling, ~15+ft long.

I always thought entertainment centers are dying out. The course of home technology has gadgets slowly spreading across a person's home as opposed to having everything clustered in a hot messy bundle of wires.

The optimal aesthetic for the modern flat screen, aside from having it hidden and slide out when needed, is to simply have it hanging on a wall on it's own as if it were a piece of art. Either that, or on a simple stand/shelf with all the other electronics to the side elsewhere. I think the goal is to have the screen have it's own breathing space, and all the things attached to it not within the visual parameter of the screen. So when you are watching all you see in screen and wall. Optimal setup.

I am also ready for a 75" tv. But the wife isn't so there goes that.

I don't have experience with the large models but I have a 55" TCL 4 series and that thing is excellent. It's no OLED of course. But for thew price
it really can't be beat. I have seen them for $299.

75" would be glorious!

Doesn't she know you buy big TV because you Love her ?

Love is Directly Proportional to the Square of the TV's inches.

This won't happen for another 10 yrs.  the technology is not even rdy for Serious movie watching, you can have pixel deterioration in as little as 3000hrs.

VA is the way to go for now.

The technology and production methods have existed for a while. Not only is it a better picture, it's also far cheaper to manufacture and has a much greater consumer life vs an LCD. Big electronic companies are holding OLED back from the consumer market so they can continue to eek out small definition upgrades to standard LCD screens for as long as possible. Don't you see the mass marketing that is done each time a "new" level of hd is "achieved?"

OLED does produce a better image, and they ARE cheaper to build, they just deteriorate too fast.

There's going to be no fixing that for a very long time.   Even with the latest quantum conversion, we still have only ~8,000 hrs of stability before noticeable deterioration.

OLED is NOT READY for modern use cases.

okay but more on topic i've never had anything above 55. it seems like it'd be too big, even in the living room. at a certain point, i prefer big audio over big screen.

I got a 75” last year replacing a 55”. It seems great for a few days and then you get use to it and the thrill is gone.

The best thing is they are so inexpensive. So, why not?

I know that's the lame part. Seems like no matter how big after a couple days you get used to it.

I've thought about going 55 to 65 but it seems like a small upgrade.

About 11 feet.  The picture is great but I need to black out the windows behind me because the outside light reflecting on the screen is distracting during the day.

Saw the 86 and 82 @ costco,  They really dwarf the 75..

IDK.. epeen aside..    mmm... VA has viewing angle limits so there's a limit on size vs distance, where too large a panel simply won't look good,  so hrrrm.......

OLED is good but, it's unreasonably priced for what it is. a ~5000 hr tv..  because after 5000 hrs, it becomes crummy.

Of course, then a VERY rich person would say,  if you watch 5000hrs of TV, that itself is a PROBLEM

You couldn't convince me to buy an oled screen for computing right now.
Waaaay too much burn in.

"We fixed it!"
Yep, just be sure to hide your task bar and turn off any huds in games if you play for long periods and don't forget to turn off the screen or have it play random scenes when not in use... Do all this and you can get 8k hours without burn in. Yep, that sure sounds fixed to me.
