Aluminum vs Brass plate for linears?
« on: Sat, 22 February 2020, 21:53:47 »
Hey guys I'm just wondering what everyone prefers for plates, like which sounds or feels better. I currently have an alu plate but considering a brass so would like some input please. Thanks!

It's a vanity thing. like jewelry

You buy it to feel special.

You get to define for yourself, what it does and how well it does it, because it fundamentally does nothing.

Tp4 personally prefers Steel inserts, and believe it helps Tp4 frag harder online.

It all depends on your typing preference. I like a solid bottom out so out of the two, I like brass. I prefer stainless steel over all of them.

Yeah, it really depends on your preference and you'll never really know the answer until you've tried them both yourself.

On the side note, I like polycarbonate plates with linears.  :))

I would love to try polycarb but I heard kbdfans polycarb 60% plate is quite flimsy and low quality? Do you think I should try it anyway? I can't seem to find any other manufacturer

Polcarb plates need a case designed for that purpose otherwise you may as well not even bother using a plate.

Tub chassis, like most 60% use, are not designed for it. It may fit, it may work, but it's a fudge at best. Frankly, it's barely a step above not using a plate at all, and given that having no plate makes it easy to work on switches, if I was using a 60% I'd go without before I went with a plastic plate.

As for brass vs alum plates, some people like a heavy board, so it stays put. I've always felt the feet made a bigger difference there, but there are pros and cons to light and heavy keyboards.

I don't know anything about kbdfans, or polycarbonate keyboard plates, but that stuff is normally literally bulletproof, depending on caliber and thickness. It is some of the most durable plastic around. They usually use it for paintball masks, etc.

KBDFans polycarbonate plates are great. I place my trust in their keyboard plate making abilities. Capitalism.
