I wish that there was a simple way to coax them back into reality. As always, I would recommend reading serious, quality, fact-based books - but if they did that they would not have fallen into the rabbit hole in the first place.

I know one man who is very smart, not susceptible to bull****, and although I disagree with almost all his views, he presents them in a researched and clear manner. Yet even in the 11th hour as the capitol burned he STILL vocalized his support of the Trump admin. I genuinly do not understand it, he's not an idiot. It cannot simply be sunk-cost there has to be a reason smart people who can think independently still choose to fall into this camp. I do not get why though. Tp4 has made progress this year to curtail electronix purchases.  Last year Tp4 bought 3 tvs and 2 monitors.  This year, only 1 tv.   Tp4 also canceled his es920 order in solidarity to support the warnock / ossoff senate runoff vote.

Based on what I've seen of the Qanon cases, they're not people with long attention spans, which is why the soundbites pulled them in, in the first place.

I don't think so, but, to be honest, I haven't spoken to him in a couple of months. After the election was called for Biden, he put out a horrific "call to arms" Facebook post that advised "loading your guns" and "blood in the streets" as - "patriots" - "took back" - "their country" so I determined that I needed to remove him from my life until he re-engaged with reality.

For years (decades) my family has generally avoided conversations on politics and religion when I am around, so I didn't realize how far gone he was. One of my sisters and my cousin stay in closer contact with him and I haven't gotten any reports since the inauguration.

As you say, there is not much to do. The indoctrination carefully inoculates them against facts, reason, and logic.

I have a personal recommendation if you want to look more into how cults brainwash people in the first place, and might help understand why some of the people in the QAnon and Trump movements are so invested while seeming like reasonable people 90% of the time, research Steven Hassan's BITE model. The guy was in the Moonies when he was younger, and almost died following their beliefs before his family pulled him out and helped him get deprogrammed from their cult mindset. He's since become a cult expert. The cliffnotes on the model are that it covers the four methods of control that cults slowly, but surely, exert over their followers until they only believe what the leader and other higher-ups in the cult say. To summarize:

The PDF I linked actually mentions how that thought process gets into the minds of the followers, I believe it's either under Information control or Thought control. It's honestly good knowledge to have, but terrifying to think about.
