Biden bows out of the dog fight
« on: Sun, 21 July 2024, 14:44:02 »
My admiration for President Joe Biden is great, and I have come to believe that he is the best US president of my lifetime.

Will the Democratic Party coalesce behind VP Harris? I hope so, she is highly educated and qualified. I am very curious as to whether the former President will have the balls to debate with her - as a former prosecutor and Attorney General I am guessing that she would chew him up and spit him out.

Stay tuned and start popping corn.
Another key Lakoffian concept that the Harris-Walz team has adopted is emphasizing the distinction between the "strict, stern father/misogynist" hierarchy of the Republicans vs. the"nurturant parent model" of the Democrats. No one could exemplify the latter more as a candidate then Tim Walz, both in his biography and his speeches. (George) Lakoff warned me that it would not work to just give a rhetorical nod to the "nurturant parent model." The Democrats need to offer and build models that exemplify the caring and lifting up of families and communities across America as a realizable alternative.

Soooo.... that young guy from California?

Because Harris is woman = 100% loss = America is not ready.

That and more than half the time, Harris just says whatever they tell her to say with no will of her own.

Alright, people are saying, let's get dat Bernie.

Now, Tp4 is very xcite for such prospects.  However, However, Bernie had heart surgery, he's an old old old guy.

Thoughts?

Harris in Tp4's opinion is a no go, they will 100% lose with that.

I think a big part of why Trump chose Vance is cause his wife is Indian, and there is a huge Indian population in America. I see all over Indians coming out to support Trump now, especially old grannies who are happy this 'nice man married a good Desi woman'

She's not Trump and she'll listen to advisors/experts. Also not a rapist, felon, 80 years old...

*Actually she was a prosecutor and has held office before (California Attorney General, U.S. Senator,  and current U.S. Vice President) so she is far more qualified than Trump when he first ran.

When Harris "negotiated" nuclear to extend deals w/ europe/ukraine, it was extremely clear she doesn't know anything about nuclear, outside of what they told her to say.

If / When a politician doesn't know the first thing about the dirtiest product made by humanity, the backdrop is clear, she's oblivious to the 2nd most important problem on the planet.

Lol, politicians don't know anything about anything. All they know how to do is get elected, that's literally their entire job description xD . Politicians are almost by definition the least qualified people to hold office.

Trump chose Vance was because Peter Thiel told him to.

The second is probably closer to the real reason, the first is just a bonus.

As to people acting like Kamala Harris is a token mindless "nobody", they are the usual ignoramuses who do not want to know anything.

She was:
Elected - District Attorney
Elected - Attorney General
Elected - US Senate
Elected - Vice President

In other words, she has had a 20-year career in elected public service. Trump and Vance have each won 1 (one) election and have each served 4 (four) years.

So VP Harris has had more than 2X (twice) as much experience in public office as Trump and Vance combined.

(George) Lakoff warned me that it would not work to just give a rhetorical nod to the "nurturant parent model." That's just it,  She's yet another OBLIVIOUS politician "at best."

Let's assume she's a good politician, she may even be smart in "that way."  But she is like the rest a moron in all things that matter, the hard scientific realities of humanity's reckoning.

We need an ENGINEER at the helm, like Merkel, or at least someone who's irregularly compassionate like Bernie.

Revenge is entirely secondary.

Corruption is, and has been, the downfall of our nation (and our world). Selfish and venal players should not determine the fate of humanity.

Public servants need to be focused on public service. Political officials who do not serve the public need to be permanently removed from office.

In a perfect world yes, but now we have created a system in where money allows people to get in and unless you have too much money, you need other peoples money to run for office. Those people with the money to support your run will only help you if they are getting some kind of ROI. Even on a semi-local basis, you have to have years worth of expenses saved to run for state office to allow yourself time to actually campaign, etc. The job of public servants were never meant to be careers. They were supposed to be selfless positions for people to occupy to serve their country for 1 or 2 terms.

That is an idealistic, overly simplified view of kingship.

The king is a human being, he has too much power. He must have too much power, otherwise he as a single person, can not keep his "flock" of other people in line.

But, AS he is human, he's prone to waste, miscalculations, selfishness, and all other human weaknesses. These multiplied by his inordinate power becomes the social maladies, such as the pillars of rule through violence, mansions, skyscrapers, cities.

Now you unfold this problem across a pyramid of human controllers, it's a giant web of resistors wasting too much power, forming mankind's CPU.

The "thing" as it is, corruption as it is, they're unpleasant, but necessary outcomes of information processing.

We need better architecture for sure, and it has gone through revisions, but it's woefully inadequate in the current state.

We must exchange the primary nodes from Politicians to Engineers.  We must redesign the economic algorithm to calculate for Sustainable-Recursive-EMPATHY rather than merely (tallying Entropy, which is Capitalism).

Those of us who served in the US (I worked for DHS for a while) took an oath to uphold the principles of a document whose fundamental tenets are:

(1) to form a more perfect Union
(2) establish Justice
(3) insure domestic Tranquility
(4) provide for the common defence
(5) promote the general Welfare
and
(6) secure the Blessings of Liberty

ps - in 1787 the word "perfect" had the meaning equivalent to today's "complete"

Those tenets much like the bibles, are written ideals that man should Aspire-to, but also ultimately impossible to uphold.

Your child makes a grievous mistake, do you simply allow him to be killed. Why do mothers harbor monstrous sons even till the bitter end.

That is the true world and nature of mankind. To preserve genetic lineage at all cost .  This facet of humanity is as true in families as it is in politics.

Regardless of the inhumane acts committed by constituents under rule, as long as their value in expedience exceeds the losses incurred from their imperfection, they will continue to hold their position.

You can not simply judge acts by human-ideals. The game is played as it is. Ideals provide direction, but they are neither benchmark nor rule.

Anyone in a leadership position, no matter how seasoned or charismatic, is only as strong as the team surrounding them.
Good leaders realize this, and that they are there to support their team in making them look good. Bad leaders act like they are pulling most of the weight, and that they are the team.

Also agree with fohat. Trump legitimized corruption, which was one of the most dangerous things to happen in recent politics.

I found it remarkably comforting to be reminded that people (anywhere, to be honest - our situation here is not much better) do still genuinely pay attention to what their politicians actually say and do - outside of the obivously biased political mud-flinging that goes on in the mainstream media channels, of course. This is just a guy, with a thick Southern accent no less, who actually listen to what Trump says and decides "what you just said does not align with my political and moral compass, and therefore I shall not vote on you". Not trying to zoom in on someone's son in rehab, or just assuming a blind "us versus them" attitude regardless of what's actually going on, but just going "I've looked through your election points and this thing you've formulated is a deal breaker for me".

I know our media here is showing a very one-sided picture but from across the pond it really looks like not a single soul in the US actually thinks about whom they'd want to vote for. There is just "our guy" and "the enemy's guy". Obivously this is not the case, I'm well-aware that that'd be ridiculous, but it's nice to actually get to see it for once.
