Physical Ailments Forever
« on: Fri, 04 July 2025, 18:03:02 »
Is it just a fact of life that once a human reaches a certain age they begin developing aches and pains in their bodies that never go away?
Does every older adult simply have constant 24/7 pains in their bodies they just learn to live with and work around?

Nope, only people eating a SAD (standard american Diet).

All known blue zones, (high centinarian regions) of the world unanimously eat differently, whereby 80-90% of calories come from Complex Carbohydrates/ Whole plant-foods.

Yes and No

The old joke - Patient: "Doc it hurts when I do this" - Doctor: "Well, don't do that" - is not really a joke.

Take care of yourself as best you can, and then learn to adapt and ignore.

For example after my shoulder surgery I will never be able to shoot a basketball or throw overhand worth a damn.   c'est la vie

PS - I get a hamburger and fries at McDonald's once in a blue moon, there really is no substitute

"Starting in 2011, the deficits again started to shrink. During Obama’s term  the deficit was reduced by $900 Billion  before finally in 2015 the GOP managed to wrangle a “reconciliation” bill out of Obama where he again cut corporate taxes, as well as made permanent some of George W. Bush’s original tax cuts. This is the year everything reversed. Before this, under Clinton, Bush and Obama the deficit in almost every year was gradually decreasing. The balance we had of taxes and the economy was bringing the deficit down, the money coming in was slowly catching up with the money going out until 2015. Trump’s subsequent tax cut has continued the new trend even after the rest of Bush’s cuts have since expired. Obama had an average GDP of 2.3%, with 11.6 million jobs created and unemployment peaking at 10% in 2009, then falling to 4.3% in 2016. If we had continued on that downward deficit track, we would have again reached balance and another surplus in 2017-2018.

Not necessarily 24/7 and most of the time it's based on what you did when you were younger. Almost every bad injury comes back so if you ride BMX or bulls you're probably gonna have a hard time compared to someone who did something low impact like modeling.

Yes you learn to work around it but it's also why so many turn to alcohol and drugs.
Compound that with the other things in your life (PTSD)  or lack of family or hobbies and you can see why so many older people are self medicating.

Hit the nail on head here, I can confirm this is true. I did all kinda of crazy stuff when I was younger then ended up becoming a carpenter right out of HS. I got all kinds of aches & pains that my friends around my age who were not as bold when younger & didn't do physical work to make a living do not have.

Not necessarily. It's mega impressive how much a skilled physiotherapist can do.
BTW thanks for reminding me, I'll go stretch now.

The old joke - Patient: "Doc it hurts when I do this" - Doctor: "Well, don't do that" - is not really a joke.
A physiotherapist in the UK scolded me for 'not doing that' and adapting as opposed to carrying on and doing exercises for the injury.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Hint; if you wake up and you don't feel pain, you've died ;p .

You don't know pain, until you've had to call lawyers and search for forensic psychologists for a week straight.

And it's not even serious, just for basic basic stuff.  The system is ridiculous. Why do we even have this.

We should just get rid of the court, the guy with the most money wins, it ends up that way most of the time anyway.

I'd like to think that moderate to slightly intense exercise is beneficial in hardening your body to prevent age related ailments. usually helps with stuff like bone density and strength in ligaments and tendons which makes you less brittle. not everything can be prevented or avoided though unfortunately, so your idea definitely has truth

The primary function here is the consumption of SAD standard american diet, high in proteins (protein=amino acid bundle) amino acid = ACID, greatly increases blood acidity.

In order to buffer that, the body pulls bone out, and release the phosphates.  This is the primary mechanism for osteoporosis, poor bone health/ hip fractures.

Notice, Hip fractures greatly increase with dairy consumption.

So we know 2 things, bone health has nothing to do with calcium, it has to do with buffering the blood, consuming the body's phosphates from bone.

Eating more calcium doesn't help, Drinking more milk doesn't help.  The only way to truly improve bone health is to eat 100% veggie ensuring the blood is alkaline.

40 countries plotted by dairy consumption and hip fractures.
