Public Broadcasting R.I.P. in USA
« on: Fri, 18 July 2025, 08:33:45 »
After decades of trying, the Republicans have finally gotten one of their greatest wishes and cut off funding for public broadcasting in the US.

Non-commercial news, education, and culture simple did not fit into their scenario for what America should be.

PS - can somebody explain to me what the contemporary term "woke" means - in plain English?
"Starting in 2011, the deficits again started to shrink. During Obama’s term  the deficit was reduced by $900 Billion  before finally in 2015 the GOP managed to wrangle a “reconciliation” bill out of Obama where he again cut corporate taxes, as well as made permanent some of George W. Bush’s original tax cuts. This is the year everything reversed. Before this, under Clinton, Bush and Obama the deficit in almost every year was gradually decreasing. The balance we had of taxes and the economy was bringing the deficit down, the money coming in was slowly catching up with the money going out until 2015. Trump’s subsequent tax cut has continued the new trend even after the rest of Bush’s cuts have since expired. Obama had an average GDP of 2.3%, with 11.6 million jobs created and unemployment peaking at 10% in 2009, then falling to 4.3% in 2016. If we had continued on that downward deficit track, we would have again reached balance and another surplus in 2017-2018.

So you see, Democrats = Republicans.

Bernie Sanders, giving a speech against the gulf war to an entirely empty house of representatives.

Your complaint is about the left vs right arm of a "core"  Bad Person.

It hardly matters which arm the person uses to COMMIT the unconscionable.

Big picture fohats,  big picture,  you're focused on what they want you to focus on, most of which is inconsequential. When, the Full-System has failed.

Depends on who you're asking.

One group of people use it as a political dog whistle, it means anything they dislike or get told to dislike. This is why none of them can define it, it's not that they necessarily can't, it's just that if they do they expose who they really are. It's a way to express who they really are without saying who they really are.

The actual meaning refers to more or less watching your back because law enforcement has a (very) racial bias and doesn't really care who they pin a crime on.

BTW, this is why the solved murder rate percentage has actually gone down with the advent of DNA, fingerprints and other technology that should help law enforcement find the right person. It was not uncommon for the public and police to just blame a minority and off to jail someone went, more tech made them not just have to work harder to collect actual evidence but also absolved a lot of those falsely accused. When they claim law enforcement has gotten harder, yes it has, they now have actually do their job and try to find the right person. There is still a lot of innocent people in jail though either because they pre-date this tech or simply cannot afford to fight and prove their innocence so they take a plea deal.

They're an arm of the propaganda machine.

This is a changing of the guard on who's propaganda on who's machine.

It makes very little difference, if what comes out WAS and IS entirely Newspeak.

The corporations, fight each other to CHANGE all the actors, so that the SYSTEM can remain the same.

Unfortunately, there is a class warfare, front and center where the primary Bipartisan belief by the vaste majority of the american elites is, poor people don't deserve an education, and they probably won't have one in the future.

Unless you mean learn through factory schools where they work and play with dangerous machines from the very start.

We are headed into a un-economic situation (please google this). Where the reparation cost exacted by nature, through the form of natural disasters, will exceed any profit from human effort.

The truth is we're already THERE NOW, but it's being paved over numerically to deny the reality.

Thank You, Leslieann.

I keep coming back to this, you have nailed it so clearly and succinctly. I will use this observation myself, and give you credit for it when appropriate.
