Them escooter and ebikes
« on: Sun, 19 July 2026, 21:16:45 »
Doctor video making the rounds telling people how dangerous these things are and kids getting spinal injuries.

Tp4 actually knows a guy he got really excited about scootn' between warehouses on an escoot.

Couple weeks in, no helmet, he fell off, 20mph, broke 2 front toofs.

Sooooo... long story short $20,000 later,  welp, hope ya'll got $20,000 just lay'n around.

The escooter was $300.

Those e-scooters go waaaaaay too fast to be safe.

Even those commuter/rideshare e-bikes (Citibike in NYC and whatnot in other cities) don't even come close.

Pretty convenient but one accident is all it takes.

The scooters are a serious nuisance over here in Stockholm. I wish they were forbidden. But even the regulations that exist are regularly broken because the police don't enforce them.

There is a legal cap on top speed and effect (watts), but even within those limits, the scooters are too fast, and the bikes that sell the most exceed those limits and are used illegally without any checks.
I see people break other regulations all the time, and almost never anyone wearing a helmet.
There are several rental companies, whose scooters get parked everywhere: the companies know where they are from GPS and telemetry and who used them but don't do anything to punish bad behaviour.

The biggest problem though is that people don't tend to view them as being a vehicle, and are used by people who seem to be new to the concept of operating any two-wheeled vehicle.
Because they are standing up while using it, they don't even seem to think that they are operating a motorised vehicle but instead are like pedestrians -- just faster, and infinitesimally thin so they try to get into gaps. They often use the vehicle on walk-paths, and pavements/side-walks, with no regard for traffic laws and regulations.

For some reason, the richest neighbourhood in Stockholm has also got the most accidents per capita. Because there is where the most arrogant people live, perhaps?

A bicycle with electric assist for getting up hills is a completely different thing.

People just don't respect evolution.

The average Human can't run much faster than 8mph.  WHY would we have evolved bodies with SPINES that could handle say 10mph collisions.

Animals which CAN run faster, all have systems designed for it.

Even 15mph collision is dangerous.

The other thing is, a human body on a vehicle of any type, is not oriented for its survivable/controllable collision state.

If you're a super fast sprinter, you can argue, with legs on the ground, and running, you're in control, the system is tuned for it.

If your butt is in mid air, with a piece of metal that can puncture you on collision,  that is not a natural evolved set of circumstances.    Can you tumble safely, are you alert. No human needed attention spans @ 15mph for more than 10 seconds. So many things are out of place.
