There is no timetable on how long an engagement should be, if you want to marry her then be engaged for 2 or 5 or 10 years. Just get her a nicer ring later when you can afford it. Now that I am married my wife almost never wears her big stone engagement ring and always the actual wedding ring so you could spend the big bucks on that instead.

Promise rings are essentially engagement rings that both parties would feel less bad about breaking off. I was engaged once before getting married to a different woman, but neither of us dated very much and wanted to see what else was out there so we broke it off.  We each married the next person we seriously dated after a couple less serious flings.

TLDR: if you are truly going to get engaged someday then just propose. I was engaged without a ring for awhile when I couldn't afford one.

PS: wish I got some sweet Jordans

So its a ring that promises for an engagement ring that promises for a wedding ring :-X

That's what I don't get an engagement ring is essentially a promise. But i guess I was only going to pop the question after I made my first 300k and after 4 years whichever comes first :(.

But I kind of see what Kenmai is talking about, it does cover insecurity

This arrived today with brown switches, really happy with the purchase as this is my first mechanical keyboard. Forgive the awful phone picture and the fact that I'm on a coffee table. I've recently had surgery on my leg and thus am limited to sitting in the lounge room all day with my leg up. This keyboard has definitely lifted my spirits though!

In this case, dark brown on cream/off-white  ;)  Speaking of that, I realized yesterday where Noctua got their brown/cream scheme... likely from old brown/cream terminal color schemes.  Like the old Commodore 64.
