when I received mine the post office notified me that the tools cut open the envelope when going through a sorting machine.  The PO employees had to assemble everything, but they said it could have been easily lost in the sorting facility.

paper envelopes are good for some things.

It's a wonder they didn't keep them to mod their keyboards. I know there is one postal worker out there who takes things we should be getting in the mail and mod's his keyboard.

An empty envelope. I was supposed to receive those tools from The_Beast, but local customs or mail service did this "magic".

That's what you get for living in the middle of the fuc*ing jungle served by huehue employees.

That's also the problem of sending them in a paper envelope instead of a small bubble mailer.

That's also the problem with charging premium on shipping but using the cheapest materials available.

Your avatar goes perfectly with that statement.

I think I was lucky mine were still in the envelope.  I had a cut on the envelope, but it was just small enough that the tools didn't fit though it.  The only thing keyboard related that I can think of that really should be sent in a paper envelope is switch stickers.  Those could easily fit in an envelope, if the sheet is cut down to size, and you won't have any issues with them coming out or being ruined that way.

Mine arrived fine.  I would have assumed the cut up soda box covers would have kept it from cutting the envelope.

unfortunately the objects are still rigid, and when put through a sorting machine they can still damage a paper envelope if they are wrapped in a non-padded material.

The problem isn't the envelope. Also, I paid for cheap shipping. Well, this is the first time that it happened to me in 8 years of international orders. :(

I was a bit shocked to receive mine in a small letter envelope with a piece of thin cardboard wrapped around the tools, considering the $4 we paid for shipping, which I even brought up in the original GB thread (and people defended the price talking about shipping supplies and time).  But what can we do--when there's no competition, some "service providers" can do whatever they want.

I'm actually probably going to sell mine off soon.  I'm perfectly happy with my binder clip switch tools.

You are all such whiny bastards. Really!? $4 is "premium" shipping? It' costs three ****ing dollars TO ACTUALLY ship that envelope first class, plus the envelope itself, as well as time. Tell me again how it doesn't add up? Next time, use your heads, and ask for your set to be shipped more securely, and ACTUALLY PAY THE PREMIUM for it.

My suggestion to The_Beast: patent your tools, and then stop making them. Let everyone use screwdrivers.

Yes, bubble mailers are very hard to come by.  I don't remember, but did he shipped them by lettermail or first class?

Dude, you've got to be the most stingy bastard I've ever come across. Always moaning about the price of clacks, and now these tools!? Having good tools for a job is IMPORTANT. If you don't have the proper tools for a job then you can end up breaking **** and throwing more money away than the proper tools cost! Stop complaining about prices and LET PEOPLE SPEND THEIR OWN MONEY ON WHATEVER THEY WANT TO SPEND IT ON.

Nothing wrong with an envelope and cardboard.. I don't know why you're shocked about it. Just because it isn't a nice little tidy bubble mailer doesn't mean it isn't secure.

I can ship a cable First Class with shipping and tracking within the US in a bubble mailer for under $3, including my packaging costs and the 3 minutes it takes me to print the label, cut it to size, tape it to the mailer, drop the cable in the mailer, and seal it closed.  Bubble mailers are cheap and so is first class shipping, if you actually get it sent first class (which mine wasn't).

:( I still got my tools and I'm happy with them.  It could have been packaged better.  For $4 I am not complaining... for $6 to know it wouldn't rip I would pay the extra $2.

Opinions can still be false if they're based upon fact. The fact here is that beast's tools aren't "****", they are tools that have a specific purpose and do a good job of it.

Just because you're stingy doesn't make them ****.

Also, I've always used screwdrivers. They're fine for opening them once, but over time THEY WILL DAMAGE THE SWITCH. This is why you need tools!

Caps lock doesn't = mad btw.

This is my point. The flatheads are not the proper tools. Beasts tools do a faster job, and won't damage the switch. The flatheads are awkward to use and WILL damage the switch over time no matter how carefully you use them.

People didn't just buy the tools because they have money to throw away, they bought them because they do a better job than flatheads..

I say premium because $8 to ship this is a bit too much considering first class to Canada is only $1.30.  Square paper letters, $0.05?

This isn't a commie site, is it?

Are you really that dumb? Do you mean First Class inside of Canada? Because I assure you, it costs more than $1.30 to ship First Class from the US to Canada. And yes, it costs more than that to ship First Class inside the US.

Not at all. I used USPS website to calculate it.  The package does not weigh more than 0.050 kg and was no more than 1/4" thick.

Maybe you should check the site before you call anyone dumb.  :thumb:

Sounds nice. Don't know if you tried, but an Arduino starter kit seems to interest children a lot.

If he's anything like me, nothing! Hehe

Well that's not completely true....

My guess is tinker with it for a while.  Buy or make a cool little case for it.  Tinker some more.  Put it on a shelf to collect dust (or lose it in a drawer full of other electronics - my personal way.)
wut. i'd buy a ****ty IBM board for that green V2

Here.  I overestimated the weight even.

Pretty sure the dimensions aren't' over the limitations.

Let's not argue guys, been there done that, regret that.

1. Packaging could have been better in the same price it seems, however most people got it regardless, end of story.
2. The tools are in no way a waste, yes the task they perform can be done with other DIY stuff, however it isn't as efficient or safe, end of story.

Let's move on.

I don't know the specifics, but when I have had to mail small things like Beast's tools (spare key for house to dumb renters who lock themselves out, and other reasons) I did the same thing as Beast, I used a little cardboard in a paper envelope. Did he tape the tool to the cardboard? That's the easiest way to prevent it from cutting the envelope while being shuffled around in the sorters.

I'm almost 100% positive that the thickness would be over 1/4" thick, and I've talked to others who've confirmed that.
