If you look at the supermarket where the toothpaste is you should find some denture tablets there. If not dish detergent will work too but you'll probably need to go over each cap with a sponge as well.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

I use dish soap with a couple rinses of clean water. All my caps turn out fine after soaking for a day or so.

The sound is higher pitched and a tad more metallic now.  It feels the same though.

That's awesome! You should definitely make a sound recording or a video of you typing on it at different speeds. However, I would assume there can't be any comparisons because your 55g is customized to be silent, which alone is unique!

There seems to be a screw loose, or something to that effect, floating around somewhere inside the chassis. Shame, I'll have to open it up later to find out what it is.

It's pretty common to find loose plastic rivets floating around in Model M cases. It's why some people do bolt mods. Eventually, on heavy use, all the original plastic rivets will fall out
affecting the keyboard feel.

+1

Wallpaper. I keep minimising windows to look at it.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Got a motherboard + CPU + HSF, spent my whole afternoon assembling it over and over for several times because of me making stupid mistakes. At the last I found out several things: the motherboard is faulty and needs a RMA; my ****ty case is too small for a full ATX board and a 120mm HFS; my life sucks.
