I am not a fan of straight flex Nib fountain pens, because to conveniently produce an authentic "copperplate" look, You need an angled Nib holder.. There's No way around it.

With the straight flex nib, you have to write side ways and upwards for copperplate..

What you see in the video is a good demonstration of the ability to vary lines, but at no point do you see him actually reproducing copperplate, because it would be extremely tedious with paper turns on capitals.. Takes FOREVER.....

BUT, that said, if you don't give a $h** about doing copperplate exactly as designed... then Yea, that's still a cool pen to have.

As a complete noob I was really unaware of any of this. Thank you for the explanation.

There's the "noodler" ahab, which is a bit tricky to make work, but it's only $25 on amazon, and it's a flex nib.. if you're still looking,

and don't wanna buy the $150 namiki, and then pay some guy another $52 to file the tip down for "m0ar" flex.

I've been fighting with my Ahab all day. I don't like writing slow but I suppose to write quick with line variation you have to mod your feed.

haha yeah I'm definitely not ready to drop $200 on something I won't be able to use fully. For $25 I'll probably pick one up to test out. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yea, I saw all these really nice looking hightec C pen holders on Kick starter.. However, after getting one, I realized that part of what I love about the Hi-tec C is how "Light" it was.

Now that I attached a heavy steel tube to it, it looks AWESOME, and a possibly handy in combat... But,, the magic behind the pen is lessened by the weight... It made a great gift for a heavy pen lover friend of mine though.  :D

I am now looking for an Aluminum tube/holder perhaps, but, I've yet to see one come up..

Perhaps the tube wouldn't be very durable because it can't quite be that thick.

Dream would be a "resin" holder.

The Lamy Safari is my day-to-day pocket pen, and a Pelikan M200 lives at my desk. Both filled with Diamine Registrar's (iron gall) ink. A variety of papers, some of the Quo Vadis notebooks are quite nice to write in.

Sadly, the Safari cap has become somewhat loose... :(

I write like a draftsman, smaller hand writing but in all caps. I think on the pens 0.7 thickness works fine for me. Budget? I'd rather not spend more than $50.

I'd suggest you try a Lamy Safari, Medium nib. That's what I use for addressing letters, writing receipts in all caps. I find a steel medium nib much more suitable to that sort of writing than a fine or extra fine; nibs that flex too much don't work at all for all caps writing. YMMV.

I use a Parker Jotter for most things, and an old Cross Century from when they were made in the US. The Cross is definitely more of a pleasure to write with, but I usually prefer the thumb click (no idea what the technical term is..) versus the twist of the Cross for quickly jotting notes down.

I also picked up my first fountain pen at Staples the other day because there was a holiday sale on all Cross pens.

Also, my handwriting is absolutely horrendous! I just enjoy having a decent pen for some reason

That youtube video is so awesome. How long does it take someone to develop that kind of penmanship if you write about a paragraph a day? And do the tips of these fountain pens wear out fast? I would think all the friction on a sharp tip like that would wear out faster than an el cheapo ballpoint or gel pen.

They will virtually never wear out. Most are tipped with iridium, which is very, very hard, and you won't ever see wear in it. It will take a while to develop such penmanship, but if you keep at it, you can get it. It's hard to give an exact time frame, as it will drastically differ between people.

I bought my first pen in classic shop so I have it immediately. But I was so anxious that I made a very bad thing. As I arrived to home I opened it and fill it with ink. But somehow I knock over the bottle with ink into the nice box which I get with pen and completely destroyed it :-D try to be more careful :)))

Look into getting the Broad and maybe Italic nib, because they "force" you to write BIGGER, which is the first step in improving your penmenship,, relieving you of finger-writing in the "cramp-style" ;D

what one did you get?

the one on jetpens ;D, where else.. pentypeA

But yea, I think alot of people who also bought it are deluding themselves as to the "usefulness" of the holder.

First off, it's HEAVY, so you would NEVER want to carry this thing around...

it's quite slippery, because the steel is very smooth... poor grip unless you have sweaty hands, which I lack  :'(

Hi tec C is quite a "thin" tip "usually", which means the pen will be somewhat scratchy no matter what. now with the plastic regular barrel this isn't a problem because you hand only has to overcome the weight of the scratchiness...

Now, with the heavy barrel, you have to overcome the momentum which results from the scratchiness x10...

It's a well machined piece of decoration at best...

This is just my opinion...

I love how the g2 writes. I wish people made more pens that took g2 refills. Also, can anyone who has used or own a "vanishing point" comment on how they like or dislike it? I need a clicker.

The matte black is pretty nice and it seems like a decent option for an everyday ballpoint

Yea, fisher ball point is solid as far as ball point goes. But i've heard that "some" of the cartridges are no longer made in USA, so they're of inferior quality..

Not really,, It should be readily apparent from the start whether you actually LIKE to WRITE....  Since very few people these days, NEED to write...

If you don't like to write, then the Pen thing will never catch...  :))

I kind of worded that wrong. I like to write. I would like a fountain pen. My preference (also one handed operation) would be a retractable fountain pen like the vanishing point.

I <3 my high tec c's in my pen type a. Also have another pen body for hi tec c but i forgot the name i believe its made by karas kustoms.

Dream would be a "resin" holder.
what one did you get?

the one on jetpens ;D, where else..

This is just my opinion...
sent you a pm i love mine and use it all the time its my main pen.

Jet pens is the only way to go.
You clearly are not familiar with Goulet Pens, who are the best pen, ink, and notebook retailers out there. They do reviews of most of the products that they get, so customers almost always have some basis to go on, have podcasts and videos to educate people about fountain pens and fine paper/ink, and include a lollipop in every order. I also got a short handwritten thank you with my last order. Great people.
Risen from the dead for a model F.

Wyse buy colors were GSY for the dark grey, GBA for the light grey, and BBI for the fonts.

Um.... jetpens is "cheaper" assuming no tax, nuff said.

doesn't change the fact that you can read any review you like..

I was merely pointing out that Quarzac was being a Fanboi for Goulet Pens, when Jetpens is clearly cheaper...
