My previous keyboard was a Logitech Illuminated keyboard with "PerfectStroke" scissor switches with white LED backlight. I like it, but it has rollover issues with gaming, so I wanted to replace it with a mechanical of some type. I use my PC mainly for gaming, but I'll occasionally use it for productivity too. So I wanted Cherry MX Brown switches as a compromise. I also have a thing for white LEDs. My PC case has a black & white color scheme (Special Edition Corsair 600T), with white LEDs. I have a few Macs, and those all use white LEDs. The only manufacturer I could find that offered a mechanical keyboard with White LED backlight was the
Ducky Shine K9008S.
Build quality wise, I have no complaints whatsoever. To my eyes & fingers, it's equivalent to my
Leopold FC500RC/AB (except with MX Blues). The USB cable strain relief is exactly the same. Both use Cherry stabilizers, if I remember correctly. It doesn't see heavy use, so the keycaps still look new. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't remember the LED settings, so I always have to turn them on when I boot/reboot the PC. Other than that, the build quality is on-par with the Leopold.
I also have a
Ducky DK1008 with Green ALPS. I like that switch a lot...VERY clicky and very tactile. The problem is, it's also very wobbly. And the rest of the build quality is average at best. It's not the worst I've seen (ie Cherry), but it's not very good either. The keys shined up very quickly, and the lettering was gold/brown to begin with. For the price though...probably a good enough board to start on. If you end up hating it, you aren't out much money.
Now, my dream keyboard (for home use) would be Tenkeyless, Complicated ALPS (sounds like Matias might be cooking up the closest equilivent), White LED. If Ducky would release a tenkeyless version of the shine, I'd be pretty happy with that.
