Do not want. Imagine having to pull the "axis" back to the starting point when youve pressed enough buttons while gaming. Terrible. If you play a game that requires fast button mashing you would have to take your hands of the keys and do so every 5-10 seconds.

pointless idea imo, and buckling springs/cherry MX switches already have better feel than a typewriter in my opinion,

the fact you can still use it to type on paper and it also does it to your pc is just awesome.

but whats the point of having to slide that thing back?

Couldnt they just make it like a regular computer keyboard except with classical typewriter buttons and mechanism?

if you remove the paper part there shouldnt be a need for a slider.

thats the point of the slider, because you can still USE paper in it as well.

I'll repeat what I said on the last typewriter-to-keyboard thread: I don't really see the point.

A typewriter-- a manual at least-- is designed with a certain kind of mechanism in mind. Things like shape and required key pressure are dictated by what is needed to print onto paper solely by human finger-power. That being the case, it seems to me that it'd make much more sense to have a purpose-built computer keyboard for entering data into a computer, and a typewriter for when you want to type without a computer.

gotta agree with the foxwolf. though i do have hipster friends who write their poetry on typewriters because they think it feels more "authentic", but then why not just make a USB-typewriter without the paper and slider that slows down your typing, and just make a computer keyboard that looks and works like an authentic typewriter without the drawbacks. so that way the hipsters can connect it to their mac-books, type in their bleeding-heart poetry with "authentic feel" and directly upload their "poems" to tumblr without having to scan the papers into their computers....

Selectric would make a sweet typewriter. You don't have to slide it back or whatever, it will just stay at the end of the row. You can also make it with NKRO, the action isn't that heavy, and it's the most "clicky" and tactile you'll get out of a keyboard.

I should do that with one of mine. It's 20-inches wide, though, so sort of anti-portable.
