Advice requested with yet another Poker keymapping question
« on: Fri, 12 October 2012, 10:44:14 »
I've read http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=22474.0, and am a proficient user of xmodmap, xev, etc. under Linux (where my editor of choice is vim.)  So I can and will make those mods.

What I don't see is how to move the {Fn}  key -- if that is even possible.

I'd like to change the bottom row from:
{Ctrl} {Win} {Alt} {Spacebar} {Fn} {Win}  {Menu} {Ctrl}

To:
{Ctrl} {Fn}  {Alt} {Spacebar} {Up} {Down} {Left} {Right}

But I suspect the {Fn}  key does some something entertaining in firmware before the scancodes exit the keyboard.  Is that the case?  Can I move/re-map {Fn}  and still get (e.g.) F1 through F12?

Again I am comfortable with xmodmap and xev and even keyboard layouts in Linux.  I am also happy to whip out the soldering iron if needed.

And there is a Poker in the Classifieds at this very moment.  ;D

If someone knows the answer, please advise!

Thanks in advance,

Soldering iron is best.. You simply Cut a little slit into the trace, sand off some resin, and re-route with wires. pretty straight forward, 2 traces for every key.

DO NOT cut the trace too close to the END, because if you decide to go back to your old layout, you want to make sure you have some traces left near by to solder to..

Cut the trace where most convenient and where you can make the reroute using the SHORTEST amount of wire.

You want to make sure the wires in the back line up with there arn't support struts from the back plate..

Fn dosen't have a scancode, so you can't remap it. You can have fn instead of LWin via dipswitch though.

Really?  Cutting traces is fun and all, but isn't this exactly what I wanted anyhow?

So if I flip the dip switch and move the keycap I go from:
{Ctrl} {Win} {Alt} {Spacebar} {Fn} {Win}  {Menu} {Ctrl}

To:
{Ctrl} {Fn}  {Alt} {Spacebar} {Win} {Win} {Menu} {Ctrl}

And then I can use Xmodmap to remap {Win} {Win} {Menu} {Ctrl} to whatever I want?

Or do I simply get another {Fn} key?

{Ctrl} {Fn}  {Alt} {Spacebar} {Fn}  {Win} {Menu} {Ctrl}

If it is the first result, this is perfect!

Thanks very much,

A wiki article would be great...I found some great info at http://deskthority.net/news-reviews-f4/kbc-poker-sixty-s-take-t125.html

That explains it!

From the article:
Quote
By pressing FN+Spacebar, you can enable the “arrow lock” mode.

When activated, the Windows key, Application key, Ctrl and Shift keys on the right side of the keyboard will permanently act as arrow keys!

So
SW 4 ON: Windows_L becomes FN_L
plus
FN+Spacebar
and a few new keycaps gives me exactly what I want!

Thanks all!

Yes, it is a little bit. Just imagine those of us that got them on release, looking at the Chinese manual that was totally wrong to boot!
