My mx518 is dying

After at least six years of use, my mx518 is wearing out.  :eek:  It still works flawlessly for me, but the scroll wheel is starting to jam up.
The mere fact that this thing has lasted so long under such heavy use is all the endorsement I need to get another one.  Unfortunately for me, they stopped making them.  Probably fearing customer revolt, they did replace it with a nearly identical model, the G400.  It's cheap so I ordered one.
Has anyone used the G400?  I have one of the good old mx518s with the five small glider pads and I'm worried that it won't be able to live up to the standard set by the venerable mx518

The sensors are almost identical. The new sliders perform identical to the old ones on cloth pads, but on "hard pads" the new sliders are way better.

Same story, but I have mine for 7 years, but I replaced mine with the G500. So far, I'm like the modern feature a lot. I didn't think I would like the dual mode scroll wheel but it's sweet. The only thing that pisses me off is the back button registers the same as the middle thumb button so it's useless in games :'(

I have a G400, it is superb, about $30 in Sweden so it incredible cheap.

I had an mx518, and upgraded to the G400.

Best product upgrade in history. They basically didn't f**k with a good thing. It's one of my favorite mice, by far.

There seems to be a lot of reviews on newegg about the cord shorting out after some time.

Ya I saw that.  They have a good warranty though,  so I jumped on it.  I am one with that mouse by now :)

My MX518 has been buggered since like a week or two after I got it. It has the disconnection issue where it randomly keeps disconnecting and reconnecting itself :(

That seems to be a common failure mode.  Why didn't you return it?  They are really good with the warranties.

I just realized that the little button on top of mine doesn't do anything.  It looks like it has some windows printed on it.  I never used that thing before...  I wonder if it is because I didn't install the drivers.

When I moved to trackball mouse. I passed my MX518 to my wife, the very first gaming mouse I own. She still rocking with it. Awesome piece of mouse!!

I had replaced my MX518 with an upgrade but broke it back out for use when i'm at work and I love it.

I will stick to Logitech mice in the future.

Does any one know when the "unique Mx510"s stopped? I remember the faceplate pattern were all "unique" to each mouse, but eventually they made them all the same.

Probably cuz someone got one with a penis on it by chance. :D

I should probably report back that I did get my G400 in and I like it very much.  Feels exactly like my mx518 and I haven't had any "loose wire" problems (yet).  I haven't gamed with it yet, but its not like it will matter.  Of the four pre-programmed DPI settings, I use the second lowest.  It's a solid mouse.

I've carried my G400 around with my laptop, I'd say it's fairly solid as I have had no problem with it yet.
