The biggest negative will be replacement key caps, because of the non-standard rows. If you plan on replacing the default ABS key caps with CCNG, or RA, you're going to have a lot of gaps to fill.

MechanicalKeyboards.com have a couple models in stock. Question is whether they have the right switch for you.

Hope that helps!

Are they using row 2 capslock on row 1 r-shift?

The profile is different,   someone with OCD would go bananas over this. ;D

Nah, the profile isn't different. I have one, it's just a weird sized shift key, but in the correct profile.

I got a race back in August or so and I got a bad one. LED's started flickering and dimming after about 2 weeks. Apparently it was a pretty common problem. Don't know if they still have the issues, but it might be something to look into.

No i mean, if you were to buy a new set of caps.. You wouldn't be able to find a shift key in that profile in that length right?

Yeah, just saw some pics of it, and the text seemed right centered. I won't pay $100+ for this crap! Waiting for my HHK Lite 2 (from Arizona).

Exactly, non-standard sizes (you will have to look for KBT Race size keycaps)...

I said race because you wanted arrow keys. And the PBT cap version Race look like a decent deal.

The HHKB Lite 2 is just super overpriced in the US. I think it sells for like $30 in Japan.

- Cons (for me): price
They are nice, but there can be problems, be sure to read my entire complaint thread as there is lots of good info in there.

As for cost, that depends on what you get and were from. While $90 isn't bad, you can easily spend $160 on one if you have to import it.  I personally don't like the Happy Hacker, it's too expensive for what you get, but also lacks a lot of keys I regularly use.

My Race is used for running my servers and I use a Filco for daily use.
The Race really isn't THAT much smaller (though it is a cuter shape), front to back, the Filco is an extra 1/2in, and it's 1.25in wider.

One thing I found I disliked on the Race and any like it, is the F key row, I tended to snag them when hitting the number row. This isn't a huge deal, though a  bit annoying, except for one thing. On the race, if you hit the backspace key, and snag the F row key above it (the FN key), it launches the calculator. That gets old REAL fast. I ended up using a shorter FN key to try and minimize it.  After going back to the Filco, if I had my choice, I would build a keyboard shaped like the race, but put a quarter inch space between numbers and F keys for separation. This has the added benefit of not needing the extra tall f keys. There is a company selling one like this, but they are some off brand Chinese company.

If you want a Race, get a black one with PBT keys (no LED's) and it should be a nice keyboard. Despite the problems, I still like mine.
If you plan on swapping keys, get yourself a Cooler Master QFR and be done with it.

I only need 2 leds, winkeylock and capslock.
Winkeylock? Pshh, I use a script that locks it out automatically when a game starts.  ;D

Capslock is for angst filled teens and old people.

-----------------------------------

I'm still leaning towards the HKKB Lite 2 because, I don't use the "F" keys (I do have them I just need to Fn, them with the number row).
Maybe months, since I had to press an F key (F11 - full screen?). I haven't encountered a program that needs it for daily use.
I definitely need a white one (not black) because I want to see the keys in low light conditions (more contrast), without being limited to lighted keyboards only.
I saw close ups the KBT Race and it looks like a $15 keyboard, is the quality low?
I should be happy as long as I have a white AND black set of keycaps for mixing.
The KBT Race also does not seem to have full size keys AND spacing which the HHK touts (causing mistypes).

I use F keys in gaming and Photoshop and such for macros.

Only a shift and ctrl key is undersize (both on the right), the arrows, ESC and Del key are actually oversize. The rest are standard sized. Unless you rely heavy on the right shift or ctrl, the key size isn't as big a deal as many make it out to be.

If you can find a white Race with PBT keys, that would work, but the chassis will turn off-white as the paint comes off.

As for cheap... as the paint comes off the white (ABS) keys and white chassis, yes, it will start to look cheap. However good luck finding a white on white, I had to get mine from Singapore. On the other hand, their white PCB is one of the best looking in the industry and what sold me on it.

Mine looks good with the WASD key caps, but will look incredible once I get my (I hopefully) white PBT's and Aluminum case.

Sort of got bored reading through everything above.. And it's pretty hard to read on a phone.. So ill just give my 2 cents about the Race

Cons: Size (too big for a small keyboard and too small for a big keyboard)
Keycap replacement. Too annoying.. Don't do it
Lack of a plate/options for one... Feels so flimsy
I personally haven't had a problem with the LEDs though

Depends, on mine the PCB looks nice enough that I don't mind seeing it. In fact I planned for it before I bought it.
