CM Storm Trigger power supply help?
« on: Mon, 11 February 2013, 14:51:29 »
I'm going to purchase a CM storm trigger, and I think I'll need the 5v power adapter. Amazon recommended one but reviews said it destroyed their keyboards, and on other ones people said that they ended up buying one and have it not fit. Could you guys recommend one to me that you know will work?

Thanks for teh help! ;D

Wrist rest, I can definitely help you with.
This is the one I use. The IMAKs seem weird at first, but they are incredibly, incredibly nice. The fabric is extremely comfortable and non-abrasive (a major complaint with all the others) and once broken in, it's pretty much as good as it gets. Doesn't hurt that it's also relatively cheap. It always seems and feels high, but trust me, it's the correct height.

That's the one that amazon recommended which destroyed some people's keyboards and didn't fit properly. Could you recommend me another one? >.>

Here are some of it's reviews:
"I bought this power supply to use for my CM storm trigger keyboard. It blew out two keyboards with its faulty voltage. Horrible company"

"I needed a AC/DC Adapter for my Cooler Master Storm Trigger. I was directed to this item through the Storm Trigger product on Amazon. I though it would be compatible, but the adapter plug was too big for the keyboard."

You can go and buy a "premium" ac-adapter.. but they'll be around $50, worth it?

It requires a DC adapter as far as I know

Hi there,

Turns out the item # we were providing from Amazon was changed and no longer is compatible with Trigger. We are currently working with Amazon to find the new correct product and updating our documentation accordingly. I'll provide an update asap.

Looks like that matches the spec measurements the Trigger needs.

I am resurrecting this thread since I just recently purchased a CM Storm Trigger.  CM-Rajiv posted 2 links back in February but only 1 of them works.  He also mentioned Amazon changing item IDs on products so old links might go to different products.  Is this still compatible with the CM Storm Trigger?

Yes, it's "compatible."  Would I recommend it?  No.

Maybe my CM Trigger is atypical, but the tip of the power adapter (shiny metal bit) is too long, almost half of it is still exposed when the adapter is plugged into the keyboard.  May not be a big deal, but it bugs me.

Apart from the fitting, it seems to work.  But honestly, I can't tell the difference in the lighting levels, the highest level seems the same with or without the power adapter plugged in.  I haven't tried the USB ports, if you use those for charging a phone or something the power boost might be useful, but I prefer the uncluttered desk space.

Just my two cents.  Since I'm also selling my CM Trigger (I want a keyboard with Green LED back-lighting...) I may be a biased reviewer.   ;D ;D

At that price why don't you include it with the keyboard instead of selling separately?

And another resurrection.

I tried to order the official adapter because I'm getting cutouts every hour or so with my keyboard. Guess what? Doesn't ship to the UK.

So whats a Brit supposed to do?

You don't need a discreet power adapter.

Get a powered hub. It's designed to work well with USB devices guaranteed and they get other devices too.

They start from ~2A and go up.

Read this experience I had for full info.

You can get a anything from 2A to 5A,  I recommend the 5A, the BIGGER the BRICK itself the better, because it's likely provide more stable voltage at lower loads.

The one I got for the TK is 2.5A and it appears stable.

I suspect they also draw current from the computer if they run out, though I'm not sure. An electronics expert would know for certain.
