QFR TKL Mx Blue...Will I like it?
« on: Wed, 20 March 2013, 01:15:45 »
I just ordered this off Amazon and am wondering if I will like it.

It will be my first time typing on Cherry Blues, which was supposed to be my first switch.

Based upon recommendations here, I imagine it's a quality board, so I guess I won't be disappointed in that department.

Can't wait to get it  ;D

I love mine with Blacks.  As long as you like Blues, you should love it.  I'm not a fan of them, but people have different tastes.

You must really love that board to keep coming back to it. I don't know if I'll love it more than my HPE 87 or IBM Model M, but I have a feeling it will replace both as my new daily driver.

I had one with blues. It made me feel empowered for the first 10 minutes of use and then the novelty of clicky switches quickly went away.
The QFR is an amazing board for the price, but I don't think I could ever own a board with blues again.

QFR w/ blues is my favorite board so far. Typing this on it now. I like it even better than my Rosewill w/blues. But I really like the blue switches. So satisfying to type on. I am probably about to put black springs in this though. Or get some 65gr ones. Haven't decided. I put black springs in my rosewill blues and I like it, just can't decide if I want to go a shade lighter.

But yeah, QFR with blues is GTG

Switches are a matter of preference. Blues drawback is mostly because of the clicky noise. but if like the clickyness and the face of your co workers when you're typing out loud. your gonna love it :) QFR is a nice board too :)

Actually... there's been numerous reports of quality problems on the QFR...

Especially MX-Blue, because the switch has a complicated slider that is very sensitive to the leaf tension... if there's too little leaf tension it "doesn't" make the click sound...

Also, people have reported that the QFR quality has gone down... non clicking keys, non-functioning keys, entire rows non-clicking/functioning.

If you get it from Amazon, you're covered, but in general... I'd say from Here on, stick with Filco if you want Cherry MX..

Luckily I have a Brown board so I'm covered when it comes to gaming. I want the blues only for typing since I type a lot more than game.

I think I will stick to cheap boards for now since I'm just starting out on mechanical keyboards. I was really tempted to go for a backlit Ducky or Keycool 87, or even Filco, but I'm not ready to splurge just yet. I think the anticipation for these will only increase as I get more familiar with the keys.

BTW, the blues will only be for home use, I would never take it to work. My co-workers would kill me.

When I was first into mechanical keyboards I thought they were awesome because they clicked. I was entirely focused on the sound and I see that a lot of other people seem to be when they are looking for their first keyboard. I got blues first and I thought they were awesome and all, and then I really grew to hate them.

I prefer browns for typing and gaming. I don't know why people think blues are best for typing. I didn't find them to be any more accurate than browns or linear alps.

I can second this. I'm starting to dislike the sound of my blues for some reason. I liked them initially, but the sound is becoming somewhat tacky/unnecessary. My favorite switches, by far, are browns with o-rings. They feel smooth and bottom out softly. I've never experienced the "sand in the switch" some have mentioned before.

I'm looking to try ergo-clear switches because I think I'll like them much, much more than blues.

Thanks! I am excited and worried at the same time. I'm excited because I get to finally experience the awesome click that emanates from blues, but I'm worried that I might come to hate it. Either way, I took the plunge and now I wait by watching epic youtube videos of the QFR blues. This sounds so silly, but I don't think anyone but keyboard enthusiasts would understand this giddiness.

This. Actually, I like blacks and blues (and their love child, ghetto greens),  but not so much reds and browns. I bottom out too much on reds and browns just feel like dirty reds.

The click is just so satisfying though. I don't know why you guys would get tired of it.

One does not simply get tired of blues.

I actually disagree on your statement on the reds and browns, though. I actually went from reds to browns and I'm really liking the browns because the browns give a slight tactile feedback and it makes it feel that much better to type on. But that's just me :P

The only way I can see someone saying browns feel like dirty reds is if they type by smashing their fists on the keyboard.

Haha, I never felt this way about browns since I made the switch. Browns feel just as good as reds and maybe a little better because typing is a bit more accurate.

MX-Blue adds a bit of "substance" to the typing experience.

If you just want to get your work done.. then the keyboard hobby is pointless..

The ultimate purpose of this hobby is to make work just a very little more fun.. :D

Now, many people here may take it "overboard" and adapt their Life's progress to the number of keycaps or keyboards in their "collection"..

There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but for the most part, it is sub-optimal in terms of return on resources.  :(

The quality is fine now. There had been reports of faulty switches in a batch back in January or February.

Which part(s) decreased in quality?

There are some people who blame Cooler Master for some of the Blues and Greens not being audible enough.  It's really a Cherry problem and some are expected to slip through QC.  Quite a few of the cases I've seen are just the key needing to be broken in a little.

The only confirmed issue I've ever seen with the QFR is the issue with the left ALT key (it might have been the right, but I'm pretty sure it's the left).  The issue there is that the solder wasn't done quite right and the key may get intermittent registers or fail to register.  It seems like that may have been resolved though.

We don't know "who's" fault it is.. and we "Dont CARE"

the point is,, the CM quickfires are now on the UNreliable list..

If you get it from Amazon.com.. hey.. doesn't matter, you'll get a refund or replacement.. but for people who buy from vendors without replacement policy.. QUICKFIRE Rapid is a  Noooooooo....

As was mentioned already, the turn around time for Quickfire RMA from CM is LONG.......... and they do not keep stock for replacements..  >:D

If a faulty component makes it through quality control, then there is a problem with quality control, which is a part of the retail manufacturer. Cooler Master blame is most definitely warranted.

Amazon says they're gonna ship this in mid to late April now. I wonder if it's because they don't have any in stock right now. I did get the free Super Saver shipping but even still it should ship within a week...

The only problem with the QFR is the fugly key caps. It's a keyboard begging for a replacement set. Fortunately, with the low price you can likely afford some!
