Prom Dilemma
« on: Sun, 14 April 2013, 22:19:35 »
Anybody have any prom stories/advice to tell?

I myself is in a dilemma... There's a girl I know who is planning to ask me out to prom. I don't really want to go to prom at all... but I don't want to hurt her feelings... so I've been working in different classrooms during my free periods and eating outside of school during my lunch periods in order to avoid a confrontation.  :( Luckily I don't have any classes with her but I don't think I'll last till June and will have to face her. I sort of knew she was interested me but didn't care until one of her friends asked me whether I was going to prom and than I became paranoid. Advice?

Clearly, there's only one thing you can do.

Move to a different school.  Move back after prom is over.

Get wasted, go to prom. Have a horrible time.
Years later, look back on how fun it was.

*Mind blown* Didn't think of that... I should just grab a friend and publicly state as prom partners... but either way, I don't want to go at all and have to pay for tickets and tuxedos and such...

Man up.

Also be glad.  It would be much harder to say no and then go with someone else.  Just say that you aren't planning on going.  Also, you could be wrong... she may not even want to go with you!

If you could at all tolerate it, you should probably go.  How many do you get?

Thing is, I know for sure no matter the situation I would say no. I really can't stand going with a girl I don't really know. About a year ago, a girl asked me to the movies and I said yes completely thinking that I was joining a group hangout but when I got there it was just the two of us and I was so nervous and than during the movie she put her head on me and I felt like puking and puking and puking. No matter how pretty the girl, I feel so sick and guilty and bad hanging out with a girl I don't know personally.

But I know for 100% that she really is asking me to prom. Without a doubt. Same time I realized that she was going to ask me to prom, I realized for that past year she was trying to get closer to me.

That's because they're just using you for your body (literally in the last case)

Most of the time, they're using you so they can go places without bears attacking them.  As they'd be attacking you, mr. bear bait, instead.

Also, I heard that women are witches.

Man up.

Waitwaitwait, actual serious time.  You're trying to use the "but I don't know her" as an excuse to not just go and have a truly entertaining night, but when she's tried for a year to be more friendlike with you, you run away?  Come on, it's not like she'll snap you in half and suck all the life juice from you if you say no.  Just, you know, don't call her an ugly person because you aren't attracted to her.

Got dumped before my prom. Didn't really want to go anyways. So I just went to some afterparty thing.

Took the money I had saved for whatever prom stuff I was gonna get and used it to buy concert tickets for the next year (I listen to metal so tickets are cheap). Best thing ever. Swapped out a prom I didn't care about for a ton of shows I'll remember for a long time XD.

I did not go to prom, and I neither regretted it then, nor do I regret it now.

But I just went to my 20 year HS reunion this past summer. Same thing, it's for the girls to show off how "hot" they all still look after 20 years, with all their Botox and lifts/tucks and spray on tan. Not much for the guys. Everyone looks pretty much the same, just fatter. :)

If you want to spare her feelings and don't want to go, just make up an excuse. Or beat her to the point. So casual small convo and lead to; "it sucks I really wanted to go to prom this year but got blah blah blah to do."

Well, we don't have this prom thing over here,
but from American teenage movies I learned that you usually get laid afterwards.

So I conclude:
A girl asking you to go to the prom is like a a girl asking you to get laid with her.
Also I conclude that you are still young (because you are still going to school).

Young... Not interested in getting laid... WHATS WRONG WITH YOU!?  ;D

Getting laid is about 20x as much work for the SAME EXACT outcome as automatica'

If procreation was "NOT" the purpose of which, then I honestly believe it's not worth the hassle...

Notice,  EVERY married man eventually figures it out, and grow old, and not give a fvk about anything... it's because they got bored of sex about 8 months post marriage, and the kid comes, and they realize, this SUCKS.... damn it... oh well.... I'ma go to work and not have to think about this thinly veiled death sentence I signed... :D

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

The sooner you accept this, the more realistically you can approach life...

I highly recommend going to college, to get the Physical part of it, out of your system..

Really, evaluate the costs required... It's a tremendous amount of time, for very little payoff.

I've certainly had my share of bad sex,   but it is from the large quantity of' "average" sex, that I base my statement.

I mean, the amount of exercise alone.... WAY more than you really need.

It's a decent ab workout at best..

Ah, late to the party... but I actually went to the prom, even though I didn't want to at first. Everything went better than expected, mostly because we started drinking vodka, and disappeared to a room where a school band played heavy metal. You couldn't see/hear anything more than five inches from you. Only three hours later, everybody (well, us and some teachers) moved to a club for a little bit of karaoke.

Yea.. but you can't be like that "all day" it's uncomfortable..

and there's the wet-spot to deal with if you decide to fall asleep...

Overall... it's just cumbersome... :D

I'd rather get like a neuro implant that has an unhackable credit system, and then if I do good'', the US government lets me get in 3 button presses a day...

Boom 1 click, DONE.... I can concentrate on something else..  :))

The internet has fulfilled this service for the most part, but it's still not as EASY as I'd like it to be...

It's not that I'm lazy,, it's just that,, I see it in the realm of possibility, and it irks me that they haven't developed this...

I'd do it myself, but i didn't pick this as my field...  if I could go back, I'd totally pick neuro, 30yrs of school, but still, worth it.... to free mankind from that primitive 'yet vital' waste of time.

wow, think of all the productivity... :D

I don't really want to go to prom, but my junior girlfriend of almost two years wants to go so I guess I don't really care. Plus it'll be fun to be with all the people I grew up with for a night before we all go to separate colleges.

I think you should go, nothing better to do really. And plus it would probably make her year.

I got out of my junior prom by making some lame*ss excuse to my gf at the time, although she was pretty mad afterwards. She did drag me to it next year though. Those tux rentals are rip offs man, I spent like close to $300 between that and tickets and dinner. Was worth it afterwards though....well worth it.

I'm sure if you bear through it with something you drink it'll be fine. You don't even have to spend all your time with her, go find your friends after you get there.

So your total cost per that night... double digit hours of listening to her talk + $300 equipment fee + exercise....  NO THANKS... Unless you were dating 17 year old scarlett johansson, It was NOT worth it.  :D

I mean,, reallllly break it down and analyze what it "COST".... sigh.... LOL

Then again, why pay for a whole night when I only need 30 seconds ?
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

Back on topic, you should just tell her that you're not going if that's what you want. Otherwise make up an excuse so that you don't go to prom. I didn't go to my highschool prom because the girl that I wanted to go with was already going with her boyfriend xD. It's not a big deal imo.

Save that money for something else... like keyboards or hi-fi gear :D. Or even just spend that money going out with friends instead. You'll probably have a better time that way instead of going to prom with a girl that you don't know / don't want to know.

I mean,, reallllly break it down and analyze what it "COST".... sigh.... LOL

I guess I would have been mad if it stopped at one night, but it didn't, so I really can't complain. Besides, back then I didn't know mechanical keyboards even existed so i didn't have any other ways to waste my money. It was at that point in my life were I got my first job and just threw everything in my bank account. I then discovered that through spending you money, you achieve happiness, for a while.

I dislike the term "happiness", because it is usually used to define a "high" that people get. Like you said, "when you buy something..... it doesn't last"

Why not get high instead?

On a different note: they say you can't buy happiness, but you can buy beacon, and that's pretty close.
