Click Clack Conspiracy Part 2
« on: Mon, 22 April 2013, 02:17:18 »
Ok. Here's my take.

Rarar is probably an "affiliate of click clack"

and that cap didn't really sell for $250..

what click clack DID DO, ingeniously is "created" a price tag for something that's otherwise worthless.

I still maintain all clickclacks are Ugly and worth less.. I don't hate the guy, I merely think many of you HAVE gone full retard for buying into this BS.. and generating this stupid market for it... suckering in people with no sense of value investment

And secondly, IF i am wrong about rarar... and he is a real person that's not puppet-ed by click clack, then he made the ONLY sane decision to sell a little piece of plastic to one of you idiots for $250..

Rarar did the right thing.... through and through  :D

How can something that regularly sells for over $100 and when offered at $30 sells out in leas than a second be worthless?

I don't think its a conspiracy. I think there are some people who will pay several hundred for a plastic keycap without someone creating a price tag for it.

"Worthless" != "worth less"
:)

Edit: Oops, I didn't read OP thoroughly, he does indeed use both. My apologies.

There is a semantic difference in meaning between worthless and worth less, so no, it's not just trolling. I could say that your post adds even less to the thread.

Also, if you had bothered to read the edit that I had made before you posted, I did make note of my mistake and apologized for it. But I guess I'm the "worthless peice (sic) of ****".

Ohh and while we are on semantics, check out the context the genious OP used for 'worth less' and tell me that key caps are 'worth less' than 'ugly'.

Mm..... yea.. we should probably switch off that term as a superlative for stupid, because retardation doesn't actually parallel with stupidity..

A retard makes a mistake because he's handicapped...

The rest of the clack-buyers make mistakes because they're stupid.

UNLESS you're one of the clack-affiliates who pump up the price of clacks... THEN you rank as genius in my book..

Everyone deep down knew those Red Cherry Esc keys were not worth $250... then BOOM... they were right....

I posted this thread because it would seem that some people are being manipulated into buying these clacks based on their future value...

Since people in the keyboard hobby do not have much disposable income to begin with.. I just really don't want to see people get shafted by hype...

The red cherry esc thing was different though. Obviously some people were pissed after they had just spent $250 but there weren't too many people.

I feel like if someone tried to recreate CC's stuff (to make money) though, people would flip and it probably wouldn't end well. When you have this many people who own his work, I feel like they'd do a lot to protect their "investments" for lack of a better word.

My question is, would the Clack market be as lucrative and would they be as sought after if GH weren't around anymore? I find it difficult to believe the market would make a smooth transition over to DT without taking a hit. Or would that actually increase the pricing? I'm actually starting they are more trouble than they are worth, and while they look nice and are certainly well crafted, there's a building distress each time I miss out on a sale or at-market-flash-sale in the classifieds. So that's every single 4Grabs and EK sale since the one in March '12 I've participated in and lost(I believe 9 or 10.) Eats at you in a way that causes one to view them in a different light and the rarity of possessing them starts to feel like a sort of curse, especially when you do wind up plopping down $100+ for a single Clack. If you own them in 10 years time, do you honestly think you will view them at such a high value?

Really the biggest twist would be if this whole Clack business were some sort of social experiment. That would be brilliant.

people collect what they like - and as long as they are willing to pay for it, is it anyone's job to stop them?  people who pay 250 bucks for a keycap should understand the risks associated with their choice.

all in all, this reminds me of the dutch tulip mania - clacks are nice keycaps, but they possess no intrinsic value, only what's attributed to them. They're still only sculpted plastic - very nice, unique plastic, but still plastic. But collectors wouldn't care about that.

People looking at them as investments will probably be sorely disappointed some time or the other, or make a killing, depending on whether others still want them clacks. That's assuming we'll still be using cherry mx keyboards in ten, twenty years down the road - personally, I'm hoping that voice recognition makes a quantum leap by then and I can stop torturing my hands. Perhaps by then, keyboards would be occupying the same space that typewriters are occupying now.

That's not to say I don't understand why people want clacks. I've spent my fair share of cash on useless junk - Magic the Gathering cards for example. I could probably get a good price for what I have left - a few decks here and there from about ten years back, but I keep them out of sentimental reasons. They're only pieces of printed cardboard in retrospect, but people would pay good money for it.

Collectors operate on a different system of rationale when it comes to their collectibles. No point arguing about it or trying to convince them otherwise.

Ok. Here's my take...
Hold on... Let me get my "Wool Pulling Gloves" ready.

...Rarar is probably an "affiliate of click clack"...
LoL

...what click clack DID DO, ingeniously is "created" a price tag for something that's otherwise worthless.
Ingeniously? Really? Why thank you!
Honestly though, I don't think I'm half as brilliant as the people who make far more money off my work than I do. Hmmm... maybe brilliant is the wrong word.

I still maintain all clickclacks are Ugly and worth less..
Ah yes, a little less than $ 0.25 correct?

Sorry about them being ugly. I could make a pretty one for you! What should I make?
Lets see...
"TP" nope, that part doesn't lead to any good imagery now does it?
"Tissue"? No, no, no, that wont do, it sounds too delicate. Something more abbrasive perhaps?
Toilet paper for tissue? Sounds uncomfortable, cheap, like a bad alternative when there are better options.
Sounds thin and useless, you could poke holes in it all day, doesn't hold water, etc.

Oh... Oh, Noes! I hadn't thought of this earlier, you're not cheap, you're broke! I'm so sorry, that's not really fun at all.

Lets do a Tp4tissue charity auction, we can all pitch in one tear. Or maybe just lend an ear, that's all he really wants.

...I don't hate the guy,...
THANKS! =D
I don't hate you either! I reserve that word for things I really, really dislike that actually matter.

... I merely think many of you HAVE gone full retard for buying into this BS.. and generating this stupid market for it... suckering in people with no sense of value investment...

And secondly, IF i am wrong about rarar... and he is a real person that's not puppet-ed by click clack, then he made the ONLY sane decision to sell a little piece of plastic to one of you idiots for $250..

Nothing like insulting a community of enthusiasts to bring us all back together.
BTW, "IF"? LoL. Good one.

TP: If you havent noticed, clickclack sells his things cheap(even though he could sell them for 200 dollar and he would get all keycaps sold eventually), I bet its not even worth it with the time he spends making the keycaps for the little money he is getting. Its the people thats driving up the prices, since clickclack is only 1 man (plus 1000 invisible gnomes LoL) he cant make keycaps for all of us and that makes people go crazy since everyone wants a piece of his legacy.

Boy, you sure know how to swing those compliments.
Maybe I can help you out.

- Are they a POS for being made by an artist?
- Are they a POS for being promoted by a community, who helped get them off the ground?
- Are they a POS for being made by equipment that I designed and fabricated?
- Are they a POS for being made in molds I personally tooled?
- Are they a POS for  the 1000's of hours I have spent making them?
- Are they a POS for the all the skill that went in to designing and making them?
- Are they a POS for being offered to a community?
- Are they a POS for being high quality?
- Are they a POS because I have high standards?
- Are they a POS because I tried to innovate?
- Are they a POS because I want them to represent some of my best efforts?
- Are they a POS because the designs are being copied?
Or
- Are they a POS because you love saying anything for attention?

p.s.  The upper left hand corner of that Model M right thar would look extra-cool with a "BMX" thingamaboby.  Instead it has a custom Unicomp keycap that cost me a solid $1.40 USD.  And if it gets a cool BMX thingamaboboby, it will be staying right there where I can see it and enjoy it.  No tulip speculation for me!

unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

...A retard makes a mistake because he's handicapped...
The rest of the clack-buyers make mistakes because they're stupid...
So what's your excuse then?

I find the fact that ClickClack can sell his POS plastic for more than a quarter AMAZING....
Boy, you sure know how to swing those compliments.
Maybe I can help you out.

- Are they a POS because you love saying anything for attention?

bingo.

tp4 wasn't loved enough as a child. so he comes here for attention. any attention is good attention for him. it's actually pretty sad that he has to stoop so low just so people can acknowledge him.
No, he’s not around. How that sound to ya? Jot it down.

- Are they a POS for being made by equipment that I designed and fabricated?
- Are they a POS for being made in molds I personally tooled?

I thought they were hand-carved by gnomes?

CC's wit almost exceeds his artistic abilities :D

And I'm still excited to be getting my first Clack.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
